Speculation: Jack Hughes Possibly Out Long Term. Who Can Devils Bring In For Now?

Trevor Zegras
Brian Dumoulin

Simon Nemec

I think Zegras would be a great fit in NJ. He's best as a C, and I think he could unlock some depth scoring down the lineup when Hughes comes back, and push Haula to 4C where he belongs. He'd also be a guy who can boost our 2nd PP unit, and could fill in as a top 2C in the seemingly likely scenario where one of Hughes or Hischier are injured.

Palat - Hughes - Bratt
Noesen - Hischier - Mercer
Cotter - Zegras - Meier
Bastian - Haula - Tatar

Dumoulin would be a nice replacement for Siegenthaler and give us some veteran depth on LD. He'd probably push Dillon to 7th D when Siegs comes back.

Luke - Hamilton
Siegenthaler - Pesce
Dumoulin - Kovacevic
Dillon - Casey

Could be wrong but a Zegras - Nemec deal seems more like a one for one.

I think with age and contracts, you have to give the edge to Nemec, but the difference might not he Dumoulin, so Devils may need to add.

Do we more small cool dangling shootout players? I dont.

What exactly New jersey front office wants ?
A rental player or a guy with term?
To me they have to go with a guy with terms due to Hughes conditions always injured !!!
Does they have an interest in Casey Mittlestadt ?
To me he can be a good fit in New Jersey

any move depends on if hughes can pull a kucherov/stone and be back for game 1 of the playoffs. If he can then add the pieces.

If not then i wouldnt. Team has been struggling lately with Hughes so without him its going to be problematic and there is no point in paying an expensive price if your best player wont be back in the playoffs imo.

If hughes can be back for the playoffs game 1 then get as much secondary scoring as you can since after hughes and bratt there is a drop off
team was really struggling without hischier. the devils are not the same when one of their #1oa picks is not in the line up.

3 yrs x $7.1M left
24 yr old rhs C
Where do you get your information?

He's a left shot centre with 1 year left after this one at 5.75. RFA at end of deal

Wouldn't be my first player to target but I think his value is down right now and could thrive in a new environment with higher skilled players.

We may be talking about different players. My back and forth has been about Dylan Cozens from Buffalo. Who is definitely a righty center. He is in year 2 of 7 that pays him $7.1M per. He is def having a down year. I dont like his AAV but I think he is what we want Mercer to be:

I think I'm there if 86 is LTIR'd

We need someone who can create offense, and Zegras can do that. Don't let his counting stats in Anaheim fool you.
I don't look at stats until you get past what he looks like on the ice.
I'm looking at a waterbug who dangles. Take his production add a defensive side to him and add 20 lbs. That guy, I'll take.

Zib
we can retain max 50% to 4.25
believe it or not, someone said he had most pts in Feb!

price: rights to Silayev
For the same reason you want to trade Zibanejad is the same reason NJ would not give you a prospect like Silayev.
I don't think Rangers are interested in retaining 50% right now.

Zibanejad has 15 points in his last 11 games. I think NY will wait and see how next season start for Zibanejad before they retain 50%, should he be willing to move. I'd be surprised to see a big trade like this, between NJD and NYR, helping the other in their playoff push.

It's all pointless becuase they just drafted Silayev and he's not being moved for a roster replacement when your top player goes down.
