Speculation: Jack Hughes Possibly Out Long Term. Who Can Devils Bring In For Now?

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
If Hughes is out for the remainder of the regular season, the Devils should not be buyers. Even with him, this team doesn't score enough and is unable to beat good teams. Time to throw the towel, prepare for next year and sell rather than buy at the deadline.

Agreed, with how much Florida has already geared up- Devils are a good young team, this would not seem to be the year. There’s, like, 4 to 5 actual contenders, they’ll be spending, then Devils are towards the top of like 16 good-to-ok teams, some of ‘em desperately spending just to secure a spot. Don’t rush it.

10 years of not contending, "Dont rush it" is getting old! All those great contracts are being wasted on not being contenders. we are about 3 yrs in on the "next year"

Hughes had an absolutely nasty injury. No word yet on how bad it is, but assuming he is out long term, can Devils bring in someone who can at least act as a stopgap? Trade deadline is very close and this could be a scramble to get something going. Who could possibly be out there right now?
If Jack Hughes is out long term - is this the year you want to spend a bunch of assets to get a stopgap for the playoffs? Devils best offensive player is out - potentially for the entire playoffs.

This injury definitely moved njd off the all in list.
To make a deep playoff run you need luck to. Devils just got unlucky. I personally wouldn’t do too much of anything at the deadline now.

Devils should consider Rantanen as a rental depending on the price. Pop Mercer in between him and Bratt until Jack comes back.

That or the rest of the team just needs to get their heads out of their ansses and play like they were in the first half of the season.

Its was a reaggravated shoulder injury. Started with Jared McCann (I believe) rag dolling him with a body slam. Then Binnington tripped him EDIT: JB did not trip, he toe picked into the boards and then one more thing towards end of season on same shoulder and they shut him down and he got surgery. He ABSOLUTELY needs to go put 10 lbs on and get stronger. He has to also realize that he's a great skater, but blowimg by guys is not always happening. He's not as smart a player like other smallish guys like Kane, Fox, his brother Quinn, where they know not to go right at it all the time. He's really lucky he has not been popped hard coming through the neutral zone.

Their 4th line is abysmal! The depth scoring blows! Fitz waited too long addressing it because its just sone bad luck in the entire lineup. The D and G are good enough for a fun playoff run. Go grab a couple of rentals and if Jack is LTOR'd (I think he will be), use the $.

FWIW I don't know how many times I've thought I've seen someone die before my eyes or it looked so bad that yeah---he's done for the season and then it only turns out for a week or two or maybe just a game. Which is why when I looked at this thread and looked at the replay it's like that could be really bad for Jack or not as bad as it looks. So I kind of look at the opening post and think that's kind of the common doom and panic post prevalent among those who see the world as just one big ball of shit that always seems to target them personally when anything random like this happens. We're all subject to the random by the way---even Rangers fans. I don't know but you still have to wait and see. It just might not be that bad.

Just a neutral outside observer lettin ya know what it looks like from the outside- you still have two young Hughes you haven’t had for ten years but one now isn’t healthy, hell you might have a shot at the 3rd (most valuable?) Hughes bro given the Van mess. This year seems particularly brutal in deadline valuation and strength of top teams. If you wanna blow assets to get to the 2nd round, by all means, helps my team in the future, but I’d punt one more year.

For sure. But we have had no luck with Jack Hughes. And we go as he goes. Especailly thi syear! He and Bratt are the ONLY ones really producing. You're not wrong but this team has spiralled since the holiday break and this just figures. Be optomistic I guess. I on the other hand am trying to figure how to put him on LTIR and go get a sniper which we didnt have $ for with healthy Jack. In essence Kucherov-ing him (Stone-ing him as well, dont want to just offend one fanbase!)

Love this idea, Rants would probably cost us Mercer though! What would Cozens cost in assets? Figure out the cap issues in the summer, F it!
True on all of the depth waking up.

Pius Suter.

Pending UFA. Cheap contract. Demonstrated last year and this year that he can do spot duty as a top-six center. On a career year. Devils won't need to tear apart their roster to fix a temporary hole.

The Devils and the Flames have already hooked up once and they can do it again.

Kadri(maybe a tough sell but the cap is going up and a salary retention can done)

Or

Backlund

These are the centre options and the Devils might want to have more D and for that we have

Rasmus Andersson.

Kadri or Backlund + Rasmus Andersson for I don’t know what.

Salary retention can be done.

any move depends on if hughes can pull a kucherov/stone and be back for game 1 of the playoffs. If he can then add the pieces.

If not then i wouldnt. Team has been struggling lately with Hughes so without him its going to be problematic and there is no point in paying an expensive price if your best player wont be back in the playoffs imo.

If hughes can be back for the playoffs game 1 then get as much secondary scoring as you can since after hughes and bratt there is a drop off

You try to pass the other Jack Hughes (LA draftee and Kent Hughes son) for, well, the injured Jack Hughes.

Nobody that you weren't already targeting, for it would be an overpay. Can't come across as desperate. This is a long term team. Doesn't have to happen this season, which it was looking as likely not happening anyway.

They should've signed him to begin with in the 2023 offseason, lol

They went back to being a long term because the moron GM had a grit/size boner and nuclear bombed the bottom 6 and got ridiculously slower. It should be Fitz's ass when they miss. They were built like the next Avalanche and slowly turned into a cap era Lou team
