How about the Schenn's? I'm sure Brayden can bounce back with a different more offensive minded team like the devils, he'd have a chance to take the #1 spot until Jack returns in the PO's! Kadri from the flames but that's way more commitment to the cap

I would only be buying if there is some confidence Jack can be back for the playoffs. If so, I think SEA could solve quite a few of NJ's needs.

Yanni Gourde + Oliver Bjorkstrand for NJ's two highest 2nd round picks this year + Arseni Gritsyuk + Daniil Orlov

If Hughes can return for the playoffs:
Bratt - Hughes - Bjorkstrand
Meier - Hischier - Mercer
Haula - Gourde - Noesen
Palat - Lazar - Cotter/Bastian

He ain't coming back for playoffs, if the Devils make it, probably not now.
Everything about the video screams creamed corn shoulder/clavicle/arm -> four to six months, unfortunate but more likely than not.

If it’s a broken collarbone he could be back early first round. Patrick Kane broke his on February 25 and made it back in time.

If that's it, and if they make it to the first round without him..
Both unlikely now, judging from his arm again hanging like wet ramen, not bueno.

Kevin Hayes would be cheap and is surprisingly not awful this year.
For context, Kevin Hayes has 9 goals and 8 assists for 17 points in 46 games. However, earlier in the season, he was put on a line with Nieto and Acciari, which didn't work as a line because all three players skate too slowly. Since the beginning of 2025, he has 10 points (5 goals, 5 assists) in 24 games. Furthermore, he is -12 for the season, but only -1 since the beginning of 2025.
He has generally been playing 3C minutes with Bottom 6 players; a ~32 point pace for a 3C over a full season is not bad at all.

No on Gritsyuk

It looked like a wrist or elbow

I think (hope) that it's the other arm

If Hughes is out for the remainder of the regular season, the Devils should not be buyers. Even with him, this team doesn't score enough and is unable to beat good teams. Time to throw the towel, prepare for next year and sell rather than buy at the deadline.

He's always been something of a fragile hockey player. Just reading through his wikipedia page he seems to have a history of shoulder injuries. Hopefully it's not that because you can go to the same well for the same kinds of injuries only so much.

Anyway all this seems a bit premature to me. There's even some chance that it's not that serious an injury. Devils should know in a day or so pretty much how bad Hughes's injury is and act accordingly to how they see their playoff chances. They've made something of a rebound this year but I wouldn't exactly put them among the top echelon teams in the league. They already needed to make a key addition or two to have some hope of going deep. If Jack can't go for them at at least close to his best it's going to be a huge reach for them to just get past the 2nd round if they make it that far. I didn't see them as a true contender anyway and there's always next year.

Nah, Fitz wot give up on the season. Put him on LTIR, trade for a guy like Cozens, throw the 4th line in the trash with ufa pickups and try and win a round or two. Standing pat after this past summer's off-season should not be an option.

I'd look towards a Nemec for Dobson flip with Brock Nelson going to NJD as a rental.
Would Lou Lams even do that? If so why, Dobson is a more finished product?

Its was a reaggravated shoulder injury. Started with Jared McCann (I believe) rag dolling him with a body slam. Then Binningtontripped him, he toe picked into the boards and then one more thing towards end of season on same shoulder and they shut him down and he got surgery. He ABSOLUTELY needs to go put 10 lbs on and get stronger. He has to also realize that he's a great skater, but blowimg by guys is not always happening. He's not as smart a player like other smallish guys like Kane, Fox, his brother Quinn, where they know not to go right at it all the time. He's really lucky he has not been popped hard coming through the neutral zone.

Their 4th line is abysmal! The depth scoring blows! Fitz waited too long addressing it because its just sone bad luck in the entire lineup. The D and G are good enough for a fun playoff run. Go grab a couepl of rentals and if Jack is LTOR'd (I think he will be), use the $.

When he was with the sharks the two things Matt Nieto could do was skate and PK. Can he not skate anymore?

One of the Flyers' beats suggested NJ might be sniffing around Scott Laughton even before the injury. I don't normally consider our reporters reliable, but it's worth mentioning.

Not really. He had an injury that put him out for about a calendar year. There were reports (over the summer) that he wasn't going to be playing at all this season, but I guess they were wrong. Nonetheless, he's not what he was before the injury, at least not right now.

Clearly they need Mika Zibanejad in their lives
I know us NYR fans like to rip him on 75% of his plays, but I'm sure if he had an expiring contract nearly every contending team in the league would be interested. However, too many years remaining and the NMC puts this to rest.
