No lie: a friend of mine who is a Devil fan texted me this morning talking about all the top prospects and I swear I said to him "I'd almost take Kakko over Hughes if the Rangers won the lottery".

That said I would be just as stoked to get Hughes if he falls to us.
I have a friend who’s a huge Devils fan, last year when they were picking 17th he text me and said ‘I hope they take K’Andre Miller’ and I answered ‘I’m really hoping Smith falls or the Rangers can trade up for him.’ Between knowing who was in the top 3 and not knowing the order he text me and said ‘I want Kakko so bad’ and I answered ‘I’d love to get Jack Hughes.’ Our favorite teams are building their teams based on our opposite favorites

Probably, but I’m not sure how much I’m expecting point-wise from either Hughes or Kakko’s rookie season

I think Kakko is capable of 25+ goals and 50+ points. I think he’s more pro ready than Svechnikov last season, but doesn’t have the depth of emerging offensive talent around him that Laine had coming into the league in 2016.

I know there's a lot of giddiness here tonight, but, man, some people really need to rein it in. This is why I am so fearful of a pursuit of Panarin. Everything gets pushed to the next level, and that's where you end up with an incomplete team. Be patient, Grots!

Hughes or Kakko? The answer is yes, please. Still can't believe we're landing one of these guys.

It’s a process and it will still take time.

Even if Kakko is everything he’s hoped to be and more; even if he is indeed the best player in this draft; even if his impact is immediate and profound; there are a lot of pieces around him that still need to grow and mature.

Kakko has a chance to be a legit driving force on this team for the next 15 years. But he’s also just a teenager in an organization that has a lot of teenagers and kids barely in their 20s.

I know that, you know, I'm betting Gorton knows that, but, there are a lot of folks that are ready to go plaid on this rebuild.

I still feel like I'm gonna go to nhl.com in the morning and see that they're redoing the lottery because someone bungled something. I honestly cannot believe it. Is this seriously the highest pick they've ever had?

Highest in the expansion era I believe. Brendl was previous high at #4.

They drafted a guy #1 overall a long time ago but he never played for the RAngers. Different rules back then though, most good players were already taken by NHL teams who were sponsors of their teams.

Yeah, I only count the modern draft rules. And even then it gets tricky.

Gorton and the boys are out celebrating tonight. I have no doubt.

And my guess is Zibanejad isn’t feeling too bad either.

You guys are in the best position. Let New Jersey pick the player that they want. You guys have the benefit of the doubt because both of these players could help the Rags. If I had to choose a player for your guys, it would definitely be Hughes. However, if you are going to get Kakko there is nothing wrong with that. The dude is a two way beast.

Congrats, I am really liking how your rebuild is going.
