While the skates look to first touch Hanifin, Eichel and Jack clearly make content after that. Pointless to argue over who tripped him. Nobody did anything on purpose. And Jack probably doesn't go crashing that hard into the boards if it was just the skates from Hanifin.

Does this actually work? Do players decide to not play physical with star players from other teams cause they are oh so scared of being jumped by a goon from another team? I'd be surprised if someone made it to this level of hockey but is terrified of physicality. Would Eichel not try to play defense there simply because he is afraid that another hockey player might punch him a couple times?
Not really. The era of arbitrary mob justice that people clamor for also coincided with a lot more dirty play (often from the so called protectors). The best deterrent for dirty play is lengthy suspensions.

No...tangled feet isn't a trip.

For it to rise to a trip, you have to kick or stick your leg out.
I'm not sure I agree. The rule talks about an accidental trip in the context of a completed play is not a penalty. To me the implies an accidental trip not in connection with a non-completed play is a penalty. Accidental trips are not excused across the board the way I read the rule. It also just says "placing" the foot or stick or whatever is required for the trip. I don't see that as mandating something out of the ordinary in terms of sticking out a leg or reaching with the stick but I agree that is usually how it's called. In this instance Huges was tripped accidentally and it's not as if the two minute penalty would matter in the scheme of things anyway. Really unfortunate.

So is Quinn Hughes still going to NJD in 2 years if Jack is retired by then?

Good for Jack for signing that bif ticket contract early on!! highly suggested for any smaller NHL players. Why risk it for the biscuit.

A bird in hand.

Look at Matthews. He's a BIG boy and I bet he wishes he'd accepted the longer contract.

Some players can handle the beating of playing elite sports and some can not. Every time we turn around, Jack Hughes is hurt. And it seems like he has serious injuries and not just the small stuff.

There was a Ticat player (CFL) named Jesse Lumsden. He was built like a horse but, every time he'd get hit, he'd get hurt.... bad. Made no sense.
