Does not alter the facts that if you believe that Nash is the most proficient goal scorer 5v5 forward in the NHL, then you want him on the ice over every other NHL player during a 5v5 as you want the most proficient players on the ice.

Ok. For me, I would take Ovechkin over Nash at es all day, every day. Not being able to speak for most of the NHL fandom, but taking a guess that most would agree with me.
Then apparently this stat cannot be submitted that he is the best ES goal scorer in the NHL. Which has been the only point that I have been trying to make. Not that he is or he isn't, but that the /60 stat cannot be used as sole evidence.
What other information is there? Both are healthy. You have either choice A or choice B. It does not take that long to decide this.

Who cares who else is on the ice? When you need a goal, is not the expectation that you would want the most proficient goal scorer in 5v5 on the ice? In a 5v5 situation is your preference Nash or Ovechkin? About as straight forward as it gets.

There is not a single poster on this board who claims that Nash is the most proficient goal scorer during 5v5 play.
Efficient: Yes. He makes the most of his minutes.
Productive: Yes. He makes the most of his minutes.
Proficient: No.
Ok. I apologize. He is the most productive ES goal scorer.
Productive: Achieving or producing a significant amount or result.
As he is most productive, that means that the result (scoring goals) is done more by Nash than anyone else when it comes for 5v5 play. As such, again, we can surmise that you want him on the ice over virtually everyone else when it comes to scoring goals. And certainly would want him on the ice over Ovechkin.
Then you should have absolutely no problem stating that over the course of a season, you much prefer Rick Nash to be on your team when it comes to 5v5 over Ovechkin. The great majority of minutes are spent at even strength as opposed to special teams. And you want the guy that is better at it than not, no?

well..ill say this..Nash is certainly better than AO defensively..makes what like 3 mil a year less or something?
AO is a power play monster...so theres that.
its not a super simple argument to make in terms of who would you prefer...all things being equal...last minute of the game and we are losing..ill take AO 9 times out of 10.
Last minute of the game and we are winning, 10 times out of 10 ill take Nash.
Tie game, flip a coin.

No. We can surmise that he scores goals at a per 60 rate better than any other forward who meets the 2000 minute minimum during 5v5 play from 2012-2013 through this season. As has been stated I don't know how many times at this point.
Anything you derive from that moves away from the metric and into analysis.
Further, you can also assist goals. So when you lead the conversation into "WHO DO YOU WANT ON THE ICE!?!" Well, I probably want the guy who has the best chance of scoring a goal, or assisting a goal. That guy is Crosby. I want Crosby on the ice.

Ok. Your view and will not debate it. For my money, unless you are talking about penalty killing, there isn't a single instance that I would not take Ovechkin over Nash.
You stated that he is the most productive. That is what the stat tells you. Logic dictates that when you want a goal, you want the most productive player out there.

protecting a lead youd rather have AO on the ice than Nash?
I mean I can see the fact that youre more likely to score a goal with AO, but Nash is just...hes really really good defensively.

Nash is actually pretty bad defensively. He's a good penalty killer, but his 5v5 play in his own zone leaves much to be desired. That said, Ovechkin isn't just bad defensively, he's one of the very worst defensive forwards in the league.

Again, aside from penalty killing, I will take AO any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Maybe thrice. I want the best player on the ice. And with no offense to Rick Nash, he is not fit to carry AO's jockstrap.
