Value of: J.G. Pageau

And this is why he won' be dealt. Because that offer is about right - JGP has little value at the moment, and the fact that he wasn't traded at the last deadline says a bit about his value to begin this year.

I think he starts the season with NYI, and NYI may well deal him with retention at the deadline.

imo his best fit with NYI right now is to play with Barzal where they rotate in and out of C position.
He scored 40 points as a third line center, was I think second in the league for faceoffs and is a great PKer. He has a playoff rep too.

At the deadline I don’t mind retaining like we did Nelson if we’re out but not in the offseason

David Perron (4m) + O. Pettersson/S. Halliday/T. Boucher + 2026 OTT 3rd
for
JG Pageau (5m)

Perron had a tough start to his season, due to injuries and severe complications with his newborn child, but was quite good down the stretch. He could almost certainly return a decent asset (maybe a 2nd, at least a 3rd) with retention at the deadline. The fwd prospect is a total swing at the fences; Boucher and Pettersson have some appealing tools, Halliday has some warts but produced very well as an AHL rookie.

Isles pass. Remove Perron to start. He doesn’t interest me. Trade him back to St Louis.

*edit: just realized you have Vancouver’s ideal prospect on that list. Trade Pettersson to them for future considerations so they can collect em all.

This is a great description of what he used to be, and isn't any more. The numbers on money puck back up my recollections: he is FAR more effective as a rotational C on a line with another center than he is as the only C on his line. The reason he had a 'nice year' is that Roy realized this, and as often as he could put him out with Horvat, Barzal or Cizikas. He's actually a pretty good player to have in NYI's lineup because he works well with either Horvat or Barzal.

I'm not going to say he's a bad PK'er, but imo he's never been 'great'. He's pretty good at shorthanded scoring - something you could say for his whole career.

Pageau is a max effort player, and he used to win battles at max effort. He really doesn't anymore - he's has a lot of hard miles on him, which is why you leave him exposed helping the defense down low.

I don't think this is a secret. I don't think that NYI can move him before the season without retaining. So while he's overpaid to be a complementary winger, he's not overpaid enough to make him worth retaining to move.

imo besides the draft NYI have one big decision: (i) resign Dobson long term, and move Pulock, OR (ii) move Dobson

Those were his numbers last year.

Yes, and if he played as a checking line center most of the time he'd have had half the points. He needs to play with another center, which is not the sort of thing you'd want to say about someone who is a high quality 3rd line center.

Look at the common line combos & their effectiveness. It's not difficult to see.
