Player Discussion: Ivan Provorov

Is 5 years a short term deal ? I think Provorov should be fine what that term if his money numbers are met and he’s really interested in staying
I guess it's subjective how we define short and long term in this context.

Personally, an ideal short-term deal would be 1-2 years. I wouldn't accept 4 or more years (=long-term). And if had to choose between a 3-year deal and outcome #3, I'm not sure yet which I would prefer.

Yeah, I don’t see him taking anything less than 5 years unless AAV is through the roof

Sure, bring Provorov back and stay mid-at-best defensively.. Actually not even mid, just bad if we "keep the band together".

Big time selling point to FAs with young families…sell it hard.
Our next big selling point to take over from the zoo is that there is no traffic. It always seems to be something people mention in these types of interviews about the city.

Also, the traffic that does exist is very pleasant. I think Ohio has some of the most agreeable, responsible drivers in the country.

Traffic is relative. Growing up on Long Island...Columbus is a cake walk. However, I imagine those that have been in Columbus (or Ohio?) their entire driving lives probably see the growth and find traffic miserable. Adding 5-10 min to my drive is no bother since that's usually a 20-25 min drive anyway. Adding 30 min to a 20 min drive in NY (normal for them, awful for anyone else)...that sucks.

Dude. He WANTS to play in Columbus only if his contract demands are met. He ain’t worth a 7-8 year deal at 8M AAV. I don’t think this is that hard to comprehend.
We don’t know for sure if these numbers are accurate, but based on the reports, there’s no movement on the extension at all so who knows if Columbus is interested in ANY deal

What are you talking about? It's been reported all the way back to the deadline that the CBJ brass is interested in bringing him back on a 3-4 year deal. Understandably that's not what Provorov is looking for, he wants longterm security.

On Tuesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss the current situation between Provorov and the Blue Jackets.

Frank Seravalli: I’m still kind of shocked that the Blue Jackets haven’t re-signed him yet, that he’s potentially going to market. I would have thought for a guy that wanted to be there, that had played reasonably well, that they’d be ready and willing to commit to. Particularly because, think about their system. They also traded a way a player last year in David Jiricek, and they’ve got Denton Mateychuk on the way, and Werenski’s been great. If you’re the Blue Jackets, you need to stack as many quality defensemen as you can. Provorov is a relatively young UFA, make a commitment to him. I’m just surprised that it hasn’t happened. So, that part leaves me wondering what the market for him looks like.

I agree with their sentiment

I’m going to wait until we see what he signs for and who we replace him with before being too upset about him walking.

If he walks for 7 million or so and no upgrade comes in, yeah, I’ll be pissed

If he gets 8-8.5+ with major term on the market, I’m fine with walking away.

I posted this days ago and have kept up with this sentiment if there isn't something in the works and not Anderson.

You guys do realize Provorov is 27 and two years younger than Gavrikov?

Signing him for 7-8 years will have his contract end at the age of 34 which is still a respectable age for a d man
Age is not the issue. It's about his playing style, how that fits on the roster long-term as well as the quality of the player.
