I think that people assumed that Demidov would be gone by pick #5.

The discussion revolved around Lindstrom, Iginla, and Sennecke, all of whom could have been adequate with a 5th overall selection.

People should go back and read the 2024 draft thread. It was pretty much assumed it was ''demidover'' the moment the Hawks clinched the 2 OA. The only knock against Demidov was his size, but when Gold Star held their combine and we got Demidov's updated height being over 6 foot, and his weight being over 200 lbs, I was almost certain he wasn't going to fall to 5th.

His shot is weak by NHL standards and he need to be more explosive. Needs to learn how to play defense. Still a lot of room to improve.

He is on the first line (and so is anyone he plays with). The second line is now the Suzuki line.

None of shooters scored a goal in the shootout…..

Why are you guys making stuff up to downplay how good a prospect is?

He’s by far the best prospect since McDavid in the nhl.

If MSL wasnt so bad at coaching he would have put Demidov with the top lines right from the get go. Demi would have unlocked Suzuki and Cole and restore their confidence back. This game should have been done and sealed.

He was not a sure choice at 5.11 but his height was updated at 6.0...ohhhhhh then he was a sure thing.

Cayden Lidstrom last season..if he was at 5.11 instead of 6.4 he would have been drafted at the end of the first round because of his back....AND his awful vision.

Every player can improve, for sure. He was 'slacking' on the third goal, that's for sure, and he knows it.
He will learn...

My question is WTF is Guhle doing way back there. He's on the ice with Hutson + 1st game in North America rookie (that actually has a f***ing chaperone!).

I will add this : the deck was stacked in Levshunov's favour because Chicago's head scout watched him year-round in Michigan State, which he did not with Demidov. Chicago had a Russian scout on site, but the head scout was more comfortable with Levshunov whom he saw in person multiple times. The Hawks being surprised that Demidov was not a 5'10 smurf until he showed up at Milstein's mini-combine was a failure on their end.

Lesson to be learned: if you are expecting to tank, do your due diligence. It's not like Demidov came out of left field, many of us were praying (coping really) that we might get a chance at him after the 2023 draft debacle.​

It may come down to Carolina being a hugely important game and MSL should make adjustments such as putting Demidov on the 1st PP unit. Play the kid like it's a must win game 7.
Not putting him in the shootout where teams don't really know the player was idiotic.
