Value of: Ivan Demidov vs 2025 1oa

The only 2025 draft eligible player I would consider trading Demidov for is Schaefer. Misa is not there for me. Although he is a center, the talent level is a big tier under.

Of course since Demidov is praised by the whole hockey world, some bad faith sectarian Habs fan haters will seize the opportunity to belittle and to be contemptuous towards him and the Habs fans.

Your life is so dull so you guys have to always twist the narrative so you can feel better about yourself hating and belittling?

Anyway, even a 2 yo mentally disadvantaged kid would agree Demidov is a special player.

And risking giving such a homerun young player to receive a pick that could MAYBE ends up as another homerun a little further in the stans, isn't worth the try.

Furthermore, because pure offensive talent is Habs Achille heal in their rebuild, for sure Habs management will take the sure thing over some maybes... even if those maybes have great potential.

There isn't a player in this years draft I want more than Demidov. He is at worst #2 in a 2024 redraft and has lived up to his hype. His bust potential is next to nothing.

Demidov would have been #1 or #2 in a redraft if teams knew he'd be on an NHL deal so soon.

The plan was always that he would be in NA as soon as possible.

I think players in Russia have just been seriously under-scouted in general.

Demidov in particular played no serious best on best international competition for the last few years, was kept in the MHL and people thought he was undersized until he showed up for his agent's showcase before the draft (he also wasn't at the draft combine). Montreal was one of the teams that knew more about him because they had scouts in Russia and have connections with SKA.

A generational talent now? My god there are 5 players in the entire league with that status; Crosby, Ovi, McDavid, MacKinnon, and Makar.

No, there are three: Crosby, Ovi, and McDavid. These guys were on a completely different tier than everyone else.

Mack, Makar and even Drai are elite superstars but I wouldn’t call them generational yet.

You can maybe make the argument more MacKinnon but Makar is the best defenseman the world has seen since Bobby Orr

Really depends if you think Schaefer is the second coming of Makar.

He would be the first forward off the board though. So much more of a sure thing than any guys this draft.

Finding a franchise D man is harder than a top level scorer. Schafer has that potential. Demidov is good, but basically every draft has a couple of guys that become superstar offensive players and they aren't necessarily in the top 4 or 5. The most elite d-men in the league are for the most part all drafted at that level (Makar, Miro, Quinn Hughes, Hedman).

Celebrini is good but Demidov should've been 1st overall last year and would easily be this year. The number of teams scared of drafting Russians just blows my mind. Still can't believe both Michkov and Demidov fell like they did.
Celebrini will be a 50 goal scorer and play elite defense as a center.

Not saying they made the right/wrong choice (I don't think we'll know for a while) but we drafted Sennecke knowing he wouldn't be in the NHL for several years, so don't know if this is true.

Dustin Wolf isn't in the east coast though.

Regardless, Celebrini is a fantastic young player and will almost certainly be a franchise talent. But generational? Highly unlikely

Dustin Wolf won't even finish top 5. Hate to burst your bubble.
