I see a Denis Potvin, a Rasmus Dahlin, and a whole lot of ehhhhhhhhh as far as 1OA picks go. (sorted by career PPG)

I would guess that both Chicago and Columbus wish they found a way to make that trade work, given Lindstrom's injury status so far and Demidov's play post draft. (assuming he was who they were after) It seems like one of those trades that would have been win-win compared to the reality both teams are in by not making it.

It's generally a bad idea to trade a #4 pick for a mystery box pick a year later, especially when the Hawks can load up more if they don't have a 1st.

Even from their current 2nd worst position, you're still most likely drafting 3rd or 4th, which is not that enviable in this draft.

Personally I had Demidov a bit higher last year but Cayden Lindstrom has monster upside (yes, still, even with the long recovery from the injury). I'm very okay with my Jackets not making that trade.

Wow, have you compared their utilization? One is basically playing 4th line minutes and has seen 10+ games of 5 minutes of less. Your argument is completely bias and lopsided.
No it's not.

Until you have proved yourself in the best league in the world, you haven't. Celebrini has. Just ask fringe NHLer and 6 time KHL All-Star Nigel Dawes.

There is not a hockey executive in the world that would value Demidov over Celebrini.

Celebrini is good but Demidov should've been 1st overall last year and would easily be this year. The number of teams scared of drafting Russians just blows my mind. Still can't believe both Michkov and Demidov fell like they did.

I thoroughly disagree. If I was Chicago I’d be uneasy about last years draft and if I were Anaheim I’d be crying but SJ made the right pick.

Just for the shits and giggles when it was doubtful that Granlund signs and may reenter the draft, there was a thread saying he should be worth that years first overall.. who ever that was. I don’t remember. He was also an undersized player breaking Liga records.

The Celebrini comparison was a poor one. But we like that. The guy is an 18 year old ppg ish two-way center. He's leading the league in board battles. Last one that came in close to that was 19 years old Jonathan Toews ?

I’m saying your argument was bias based on a few things you left out. I agree that until demidov plays in the NHL there really isn’t an argument. But, you quoted both of the players PPG in their respective leagues without any context and then said the NHL is better than the KHL. So, what would numbers even matter In your argument anyway?

Sure, I could have left out Demidovs numbers but I don't think my argument is bias based. Celebrini is establishing himself as a star in the NHL. The fact that he is out producing Demidov in a FAR superior league is just icing.

The numbers can have alot of context. Not just playing time, but also linemates, zone starts & QoC. However actual production matters alot. But it's all un necessary for the argument.

Except that Schaefer is not as good as Lidstorm and Demidov is a more valuable player over all than Marner.
WTF? Demidov MIGHT one day be better then Marner. Maybe but not likely.

Marner has 706 in 625 NHLgames and is defensively responsible. He is a a two time NHL First Team All-Star in his prime. He is a proven NHL star.

Demidov is more likely to bust then be better than Marner.

Their values as players are not even close.

Delusional.

Demidov ice time was blocked because they were trying to influence him to sign and stay. He's forced them to give him more ice time as the season went along by working hard and producing with the time he got.

I really do like what Celebrini has done this year but comparing points he has to Demidov's sheltered ice time is not good context.

Time will tell. Today, Edge to Celebrini for sure. No doubt about it. But I feel Demidov is going to look very good with the Habs next year and it will be more impressive than what Michkov is doing.

Hawks were dumb not to take Demidov IMO. Bedard and Demidov fill the seats (business case) while they continue to rebuild and add around them. I thought for sure that's what they would do (pre draft)

In the KHL...which is not even close to the NHL.

You are comparing apples to...something much shittier than apples.

The KHL is one of the closest league to the NHL. But yes, there is a difference with time/space and physicality. I don't agree with how you tried to stretch it beyond more than what it is though. Exaggeration to prove a point is weak context.

Demidov is going to be an offensive juggernaut. Very high grades in skill, skating, size, hockey IQ, and will power to overcome challenges. Very difficult to nit pick his flaws.

Not sure where he goes if were to do redraft in about 2 or 3 years time but I suspect it's going to be 1, 2, or 3.
