He's explained to me, somewhat convincingly, that Montreal would be a bottom 5 team this year, Hutson is bad offensively (yes offensively) and now that Demidov would still go 5 in a redraft.

Hes a nice guy, nothing against him personally, but hes much better at presenting flawed data to back up his biased opinions then he is at evaluating hockey.

Small offensive winger? He's over 6.0 feet and almost 200 pounds. That's not "small", his size will definitely never be a problem. Offensive winger? Sure, so are Panarin, Kucherov, Kaprizov, etc... (all smaller than Demidov, coincidentally) This board really undervalues the wing position it's crazy.

The hardest/most valuable things to do in hockey are create dangerous chances and scoring goals. If defensive capabilities are what influences your top 3 OA picks then pretty much every hockey legends like Gretzky and Lemieux would like a word with you. It's the last resort for any HFboard poster who's out of valid arguments.

Even Sennecke is lighter than Demidov. If you're gonna argue that 2 inches in a huge difference maker, then you're clearly not talking about height.

It's always about moving goal posts in here man. Last year they were saying that he only looked elite in the MHL and the KHL would chew him up and spit him out.

Now that he's having a legendary rookie season in the KHL they're scrambling to find other useful info they can use against Demidov. They do the same for all the Habs prospects.

...to be fair, most due tend to go out of their way here to "bash" other team's prospects to prop up our own team's ones...we're all guilty of it...

100% agree. Habs have been on the guilty side of pumping up prospects over the years but that pretty much applied to when our pool was thin. That typically happens to all fan bases who have thin pools. A lot of reaching going on but fans think it's only the Habs. Complete BS

Today, the Habs have every right to be gullible to what Demidov is doing in the KHL. This will be another Caufield and Hutson where fans laugh and devalue but it's just wrong with a lot of ignorance.

Demidov will be a star and he's coming to Montreal with talent to work with.

I think the only trade that you'd get debate on from the Montreal faithful would be trading him for Celebrini or Bedard. Honestly, rightly or wrongly, they're only ones who Habs fans feel are comparable to Demidov's ceiling and scoring potential. I'm betting that no one else would consider that deal, but that's the type of player they feel he may be.

Remember, no team in the NHL has been starved of an elite offensive player like Montreal has. You have to go back to one year of Kovalev in '08 or Damphousse and Turgeon in the 90's to find any player who even sniffed the scoring leader board. And back to the '70s to find one that was. If you were to rank teams based on their best offensive player this century, Montreal would sit 31/32 teams** (Seattle gets a pass). Hell, even Vegas, who's been in the league what, 6-7 years has better offensive players than anyone Montreal has this century. You see what Demidov is doing in the KHL with effectively lower caliber players. Think of what skills he can display when he actually has talent to work with.

So yeah. Don't know WTF this thread exists? I can understand if you're asking where he'd slot if he were in this draft, or what a redraft would look like, but this? Stop trolling.

Yeah that's it. We don't have the same team/prospect pool as when the entire Habs board was posting everywhere about Kotkaniemi being a star 1c, but our credibility is still in the dumpster lol.

It's due to volume of how many posters we have on these boards. But at the end of the day, every single fan base is guilty of pumping prospects. Other fans are just annoyed with the volume of how many Habs posts they see.

Look at the comments we got when KK was sent to the AHL. Do you see the same type of comments made towards Nemec today? NO!
 
The only thing that makes the idea compelling would be that we already know Chicago tried to get the 4th overall pick, and they offered their 1st this year that they had to know had a reasonable chance of being 1 or 2.

I am not sure why Montreal does it other than maybe thinking they need another top center.

I would guess that both Chicago and Columbus wish they found a way to make that trade work, given Lindstrom's injury status so far and Demidov's play post draft. (assuming he was who they were after) It seems like one of those trades that would have been win-win compared to the reality both teams are in by not making it.

I could be reaching but I think the Habs will try Demidov at center with Dach on his wing. Demidov is on record saying he prefers center and his style of game supports it. Something to watch for next year. Dach is more like a power forward winger than a center to me.

I'm sure the Habs might try it in camp or in preseason games.
