So in trades it doesnt matter if he doesn't score 40 in a season.
Sure it does over the span of a career. But we’re talking about a player just starting out. He’s only played about 250 games total. If a player is early on in his career and has had injury disrupt individual seasons then it doesn’t matter at all. What matters is the performance in his career so far. That’s why we look at scoring rates.
Stupid argument of the millennium.
What’s stupid is ignoring the fact that injuries have limited what he’s been able to do in individual seasons. He’s still very early in his career but there’s enough to see that when healthy he scores at a rate that works out to 40+ over 82.

We could just put out his per game rate but that wouldn’t have context for people. It’d be meaningless. That’s why you average it out over 82. It shows you how effective a player has been.

Those are real numbers. They aren’t projections of what he might do, it’s what he’s done… we’re simply averaging it out over 82 games for context’s sake. Over his career he’s around 35 goals per 82. That btw is the best goal per game rate for anyone on the NHL at his age level. And when healthy under MSL it’s more like 44 goals per year.

Put it another way if you like… will Michkov have 105 goals in his first 250 games? Maybe he will. But it’s not a given.

The same could be said for Demidov, yet Hab fans are already crowning him the next elite superstar of the organization.

It’s more than reasonable to assume Michkov will outperform Caufield in the future. Never has CC outdone Michkov at the same age.
I mean a 24 y.o. CC can’t even make Team USA. Lol

Of course nothing is given, but (just as it is for Demidov) it’s all about reasonable projection.
I’m not saying it can’t happen. But I don’t think you appreciate how good Caufield has been early on in his career. When healthy he’s churned out goals at a very high rate. It’s not the given that was implied.

And Caufiled broke scoring records in the minors. Michkov played in a completely different league. I don’t concede your argument that Michkov has been better all along. Caufield was the best scorer ever. Yes he played with Jack Hughes but he immediately scored 48 goals in his first 82 under MSL. And he did it in an offensively starved team. He’s already proven he doesn’t need Hughes to score.

Like I said, Michkov has got lots of talent and may well be better. Let’s wait and see.

I made an Ivan Demidov hype video! Laine video tomorrow 🙂

Never been so let down by the brevity of a video, even if that play -- apart from looking like he could really get slew-footed in the NHL -- shows a lot of skill against what might be a really bad KHL D, for all we know.

It looked like the start to something good that just stopped.

But, yes, welcome home, Ivan!

I really hope all that talent translates to the NHL without Demidov making himself open to knee injuries from his 10-2 skating style.

You're a winger my boy, just do your thing on the wing and everything is going be alright

“Honestly, I don’t even know if I could play center. I’d have to try. I played center a few times in junior hockey and felt fine,” said Demidov. “But SKA never uses me there. Face-offs would probably be the key factor—I don’t always win them.”

Agreed.

Bergevin would’ve put him at center, after 3 years of it not working he’d trade him for a 33 year old Brock Nelson because “you don’t ask for more when they offer Brock Nelson”. It’s not PlayStation, afterall.
