I dont think thats a very strong argument, you think his agent doesnt know the tactic?

Lmao. It's not a tactic. It's a quid pro quo. He gets to sign a big contract a year earlier, but leaves a bit of money on the table because he hasn't fully broken out.

Caufield did it, and Hutson will quite probably do it. Are they dumb?

It's funny all the wannabe great experts at maximizing self-interest, can't see the advantages of signing earlier, whether for the team or the player.

Most names have variant period.

Frank or Franky for Francis
Seb for Sebastien
Pat for Patrick
Bill for William (makes no sense but it is what it is)
...
Richard - Dick. Makes no sense, though I did hear once how that came to be.

Robert - Bob

James - Jimmy.

There's a bunch.

wooha big money for ELC less than 1M for 1 more year? but assuming your argument its worth losing a couple millions later? eh :sarcasm: I get that's a perspective choice but, both sides are negociating, so yes there are tactics being used, both sides dont always want the same thing

Getting more money earlier, you can invest earlier, making your returns bigger in the long run. Players are also interested in security, as part of their self-interest. That's why many players prefer to forgo an ELC year. They gain security and profit earlier. Again, that's not a tactic, but a quid pro quo that serves both parties.

Seeing Rinzel join the Hawks and how their entire defence is really young, it’s even more perplexing why they passed on Demidov for Levshunov.
I thought there was a 0% chance we were going to get him when we got his updated height and weight last summer.

Bedard/Demidov had the potential to be one of the top offensive duos in the league in a few years.

I believe they saw Levshunov the way the Canadiens saw Reinbacher. It's not easy to find top pair RD's high in the draft. Both teams see their top RD picks as guys who will play big minutes and despite offensive numbers, they're impact will be big on the team.

And I think Blackhawks see a Top-4 where Levshunov and Rinzel are their 1RD-2RD.

I also think they balanced their offensive talent (Bedard, Nazar, Moore, Dach, and they surely knew they'd get Boisvert later in the same draft), they probably felt they need to address their D because they felt comfortable with what they already have on offense.

because they also bought into that fake nonsense like Montreal did, where you skip the BPA and draft by need. Neither Levshunov nor Reinbacher should have went where they did to skip on the talent available. Columbus is going to be in the same boat with Lyndstrom, he's broken and the took a C over the BPA.

I can't prove it yet, but I highly suspect Demidov will be better than Bedard in the NHL. And the Hawks believed because we have Bedard, it's superfluous to get another forward.

They're in for a world of hurt if they throw all their young Dmen to the wolves in the NHL like the Habs did. They should be in the race for McKenna and DuPont.

I don’t know. To me, Bedard with Demidov would be like McDavid with Draisaitl. A tier below, sure, but a duo that’s good enough to win games on their own. It seems to be a bit of a blunder.

Because of the salary cap, teams are more often (and really, always have) drafting for need because the earlier those players are drafted, the earlier they're expected to make the team and make an impact.

Both the Hawks and Habs looked at their team right now and where it was going to be in the close future and determined that both Lev & Reinbacher would be better "fit now" pieces than the other guys they might have drafted.

Young guys need mentors. Barron isn’t starring, but there were reports he improved a lot playing with Josi for a while. They also need to be sheltered enough that they can learn. Getting a pointer or two per shift is good, a laundry list is less useful.
