Prospect Info: Ivan Demidov (2024 5th OA): SKA St. Petersburg (KHL): Part II

I went and relistened to the 32 thoughts podcast. Friedman is answering a question specifically about Demidov coming next year. I didn't hear anything about this year.

Friedman talks Habs in this week’s edition of 32 Thoughts from the 19:02 mark briefly and then answers a fan question about Demidov, latter segment starts at the 1:06:12 mark:

« The Canadiens are hopeful”, “they’ve done everything they can”, “you’re never 100% sure” “you live up to your end of the deal”, “generally the NHL and KHL respect each other’s contracts” plus other filler and generalities but nothing about the Habs in talks with CKA about getting Demidov to Montreal this season.

well Flyers found a way to get around a contract. Hopefully HuGo can make a deal with SKA.

Absolutely. Plus, just cause Friedman doesn’t mention it or doesn’t know it, it doesn’t mean Habs management is not negotiating something right now or maybe there could even be a sum attached to such an attempt, that Geoff is willing to disburse.

So easy to speculate using 10 minutes of podcast time while saying nothing of substance. 💀

I think it could be a very real possibility that management wouldn't sign Demidov for a playoff run even if SKA let him leave once they're out.

I'm pretty sure if he came over and played 10 playoff games then he'd burn a year of his ELC. I could see Hughes not wanting to do that. We're very clearly not winning the cup this season, but we could be in a fantastic position to do so in 3 seasons, especially if Demidov is still on an ELC.

Playoff games don't count toward contract years.
