Celebrini always seemed to be under hyped, even after how great of a season he had as a 17 year old in NCAA. I feel like there was even a ton more hype for Lafreniere in his draft year.
It wasn't long ago there was talk of whether it should be Celebrini or Eiserman as #1 which looks hilarious now.

In the history of the WHL only 2 16 year olds other then Bedard have scored more then 45 goals in a season. He became only the 4th player ever to reach 100 points as a 16 year old. (McKenna is about to become the 5th) But when you look at the stats from the WHL over say the last 20-25 years, no one before Bedard had more then 71 pts (Schenn) as a 16 year old.
But where it gets really impressive is what he did in his draft year, as only 2 players in the WHL's history have scored over a goal per game as a U-18 skater. Bedard's 71 goals in 57 games is f***ing amazing.
People forget that development isn’t linear and that maybe Bedard’s adjustment will be more in the line of MacKinnon’s as opposed to that of McDavid’s. The team just also flat out sucks.

Also I feel like the BC trio, Hutson and Buium lessened the hype around Celebrini. It was just a stacked year in the NCAA so the hype got split all around.
And tbf, Bedard's WJC performance was absolutely out of this world.

I always sour on WHL players, he certainly was generational in the W, but there have been a lot of those over the years. I wonder how he would doing in a better franchise? I suspect much better. I believe you draft Defense out of the W, and take the forwards with a grain of salt like the Q. Cayden Lindstrom is going to be the next bust out of the W.

Gretzky was surprisingly tall.
And Bedard is not Gretzky. Not even close to the same on-ice intelligence, all due respect to Bedard, who is a smart player.
And he doesn't play on the 1980s Oilers.
The highlights are awesome! I've watched almost all of @montreal 's prospect videos and the crazy thing is how many highlights there are outside of the plays that he picked up points. montreal's videos on Lane Hutson were the same thing, he'd be generating 5-10 great chances a game but 1-3 of them resulted in goals. Hutson's ability to generate multiple chances per game has translated to the NHL, I suspect Demidov's will too, and that is going to start making things very interesting moving forward.

In all fairness Gretzky always had Semenko or McSorley protecting him. Even internationally he was protected- Suter got a lifetime ban from international competition for hitting him from behind. 99 was always free to skate freely. Bedard will need to develop that part of his game( and defense!)

Nor against 1980’s level of competition. The players today are bigger and faster. And it’s become an international game where superior players from around the world have raised the median level of talent that players have to compete and succeed against. Bedard isn’t an elite level skater and in today’s game he doesn’t have the time and space that Gretzky did.

There is a stark difference between 80's and modern hockey, the league is so much better now. Not saying the great one couldn't adapt to the modern game but a lot of the goals he scored back then have a very small chance of being scored now. Those slap shots off the wing that he lived off, almost zero chance of going in now, it's just very different hockey.
Can’t compare generation IMO
It’s tough if you don’t have any skating and you are small. If you don’t skate, you better be a tank on skate like a Mark Stone. If you are small, you better have a good speed if you want to be dominant.

Everytime i come here thinking it's the Demidov thread, but it's always a thread about anyone else BUT Demidov
Demidov plays today at 12:30. He's been quieter as of late, no multi-point games. I think the team they're playing against today are better than SKA, so we'll see how much ice time/opportunity Demidov gets.
Pezz is not going to be a Habs next yearHe'll play with Beck and Pezzetta on the fourth line. Pezzetta should finally get 20 goals.

The slap shots wouldn't go in now because the goaltenders have 100 lbs more equipment.
Yes you need to be agile on your skates like Hutson.
