Ivan Demidov 1st career goal

Depends how many games he plays.

If he goes for a full 82 game season, it might be a bit of a grind for a rookie who isn't used to that many games in a more physical league and with more icetime per game.

I think he has the natural talent for it, may not be right away though.
Hutson went through the same thing, coming from NCAA to NHL. Doesn't guarantee Demidov's transition will be as smooth, but so far so good

Talent I agree but thaat PPG pace also depends on who he plays with. Habs really need to upgrade their 2C this summer. I don't want Demidov playing with Newhook all year long lol

Will depend on usage as well

Does MSL realize Slaf is not a top line player and give Demidov his spot? Gonna be hard for Demidov to go PPG dragging Patrik Laine around

What’s a good estimate for Demidov production wise next season?. I’d say 25 goals, 40 assists and 65 points in 82 games is fair.
I might be influenced by Montreal fans exuberance, but I think higher than that - about PPG. He is going to a pretty offensively talented team, at least compared to my teams putrid offense and several other teams that lack depth and talent but have young stars in the making.

I see him and Michkov as fairly equal but Demidov has a better opportunity next year than Michkov did this year.

He’s my Calder favorite.

I might get flamed for this, but I think his best comparable is an upgraded Mike Ribeiro (hopefully without the off ice issues). Demidov is stronger on the puck, and a better shooter, but his creativity with the puck, the way he maneuvers around the ice and finds passing lanes is very similar IMO.
Lol Ribeiro. Stylistically, he’s much closer to Malkin. Still not really all that close though. He’s a unique player.

Very unique, but he doesn't skate anywhere near the way Malkin did through the neutral zone. Malkin was just a freak through the middle of the ice with his size, speed, and skill.

Demidov is a better athlete than Ribeiro, and more physical in protecting the puck. But in terms of puck skills, elusiveness, and vision, they are fairly comparable.

I think people forget how good Ribeiro was in his prime. From 2007-08 to 2012-13, he was like 17th in the league in scoring.

This is the exact sort of thing you saw Demidov do in the KHL:

I'm honestly expecting close to 90pts. In fact, i think he will me Montreal's top scorer next season.

Montreal has no choice but to build around that young core, quicker than they previously thought. It's no secret, they will be very active in the off-season.

Demidov looks nothing like Malkin out there. Malkin was a thoroughbred stallion through the middle of the ice, the closest player stylistically to Lemieux ever. Demidov looks closer to Kaprizov, minus the bow-legged strength down low.

Lol, nobody is “forgetting how good Ribeiro was in his prime”. I’m very familiar with the player. Ribeiro and Demidov are pretty much nothing alike, and Demidov is just on a different level in terms of skill.

Ribeiro played almost exclusively on the perimeter, avoided contact like the plague to the point that he’d rather give the puck away than get hit, and used to flop to the ice like he was shot anytime another player breathed on him. He also had a muffin of a shot. He did nearly nothing off the puck.

Demidov has better hands, a better shot, is a better skater, and plays a gritty, tenacious game. He likes the dirty areas, and he’s a puck hound. He has better vision and passing as well, which was Ribeiro’s strong suit. And while he makes mistakes, Demidov has shown that he cares about and tries when it comes to defense and play away from the puck, and is willing to work hard in those areas, the occasional rookie mistake notwithstanding. Demidov is quite engaged when it comes to puck battles and board play, something Ribeiro always had zero interest in.

It’s pretty clear what your intent was with the comparison, and it wasn’t to genuinely highlight similarities between the two players, because there is almost none. Ridiculous comparison.

How are you not getting it? He is also definitely not making the comparison to denigrate Demidov, he is a noted fan of Demidov and has been all along

Not getting what? I don’t think they are similar. Ribeiro is better known for the negative things associated with him. Pretending otherwise is pretty disingenuous. Pretty interesting choice of comparison is there truly was no ulterior motive/agenda there because, again, they aren’t even similar outside of maybe vague similarities in puck handling/dangling and passing ability.

...which are EXACTLY what he highlighted in his post, Ribeiro's creativity and how Demidov has that...they are similar in that way, which is what he pointed out...he also said UPGRADED Ribeiro, mentioning his better shot and being stronger on the puck...why do you ALWAYS take others opinions as a direct attack, especially ones that are in a positive light??...

I watched all of Ribeiro's games with the Habs. Please never compare him to Demidov again.

Not only was he an asshole and a coward on the ice, but his skills only shone once in a while. It's easy to pick a few highlights from him and try to imply he was constantly pulling those moves.

I'm not sure you realize Ivan does that shit all the time, every game. He also has a much better overall toolkit, including an insane hockey IQ, and he has a loveable personality. Personally, I see more of a mix between Kovalev and Kucherov so far.

If he gets to play 20 minutes/game next year, he will get more than PPG. I guarantee it right here.

Read the very next sentence after the one that included Malkin.
