Kreider's drive by's kill me. He's bigger, stronger and faster than everyone on the ice yet he refuses to take the body consistently. Same for Mika.

The fact that there (still) isn’t a consensus is why the Rangers should not force a captain. There isn’t an obvious guy and nothing has really changed since last season.

If I had to pick someone it would be Zibanejad but is it a slam dunk? Probably not.

I’d go Laf if he’s ready, Kreider if he’s not. Kreider has 5 more years after this one, at which point Laf will still only be 25 and should be ready at that point.

I wouldn't be surprised if they name Kreider and he becomes a stop gap captain until Laf is ready.

This makes sense to me. Maybe even have a convo with him that he's a placeholder until Laf is ready and that he'll play a key role in developing him. Give Laf an A, let Kreider be his mentor.

Trouba fits the mold of a captain so I wouldnt be upset with the choice by any stretch, but it seems odd to name him when you probably need to move his contract in the next few years.

I've been criticized here for harping on this but it's a real concern. Some folks here think my comments weird, but I believe a strong captain and a clear hierarchy of leadership is critical in sports, and business for that matter. We all know that it is an anomaly to win a cup without a captain. I believe it's only been the Bruins. Do you really aspire to be in that company?

I'm not saying we would've won game six against Tampa if someone with a C on their chest said, "We'll win tonight", but I'm not saying we wouldn't have either.

Let's look at Kappo. Who should he turn to when he fears retribution from the coach for possibly saying the wrong thing? Krieder? He's not the captain. How about Trouba? No, he's not the captain. How about Reeves? No, he'll never be captain. What about Fox? No. Maybe Laffing Boy? And that's where we stand. A joke. Nobody knows who the captain is or should be.

Pick somebody, anybody. I've said it before, but it's the guy who tells you if you should reveal your injury to the coach, covers for you on important personal matters, teaches you how to drive a stick shift car, visits your sick family in the hospital. Tells you to STFU and play clean, when there's no oxygen in your brain, or you'll blow the game for us. "Now go get 'em brother. You own him." That guy. I don't know who it is, but I know the Rangers need a captain.

It's on Drury now, because we need a captain. Gallant is good, but he's not perfect. And somebody should tell him that. That guy should be the captain.

Not a big fan of Troubs as captain.

I much rather see Lindgren. All heart, and soul. His in your face, warrior mentality, rubs off on the rest of the team. It's always been there for him in his playing career, and we saw it first hand in these playoffs. He will do anything for his team to have a chance.

Shesterkin even seperated Lindgren from everyone else. Talking highly of Lindy.

The kid is like the defensive version of Dustin Brown. He IMO is by far the best choice. It doesn't matter how long he lasts because of his style. Right now he fits the C.

I felt like Mika raised his physicality in the playoffs from his standard, tho he will never play truly physical.

Kreider idk, I think @Machinehead states it best he is what he is at this point and it’s not going to change or something along those lines. It’s a bit frustrating because if he had any ounce of mean streak he could be Tom Wilson but he just chooses to play a different game.

I think there’s some truth to the first part of your post but the reality is that they would name a captain if they felt someone deserved it. This is an old school organization, I think they’ve shown pretty clearly they don’t care about the players’ feelings.

Most teams have captains, so it's not a surprise that the team that wins a cup usually has one. My guess is if only 50% of teams had a captain, you'd probably end up with a roughly 50/50 split.

The Rangers had pretty good leadership this year and the locker room was extremely tight. We've witnessed teams here who had captains where the locker room is in turmoil. Frankly, it's better to not name one than to name the wrong one.

Laffy will be captain soon enough, he's really stepped it up this season. He showed a lot of good leadership qualities in the playoffs and wasn't afraid to fight or get in the trenches. I think he needs another season or two before giving him the C.

Right now though, I'm totally on board with Lindgren getting the C. The dude is a warrior, he laid it all on the line in the playoffs this year. He might not survive for long, the way he plays, but he's earned it in my book.

none of us know what happens in the room and who is driving the bus. we can all guess based on what we see under the spotlights.

that being said the fact they havent named any of the current players captain after how many years leads me to the concept of if you think you have multiple potential captains than you dont actually have your captain, much the same as if a team claims they have two starting goalies than they dont have a starter.

I can see some bullshit where they put a C on zib for home games and kreider for road games. Drury did that in buffalo for a year or two with briere. it is so tacky. and if the team decides to keep an A on panarin (I never understood that at all, ever) I could see them doing something ridiculous like:
