The man knows how to build a Stanley Cup Champion! After all, he helped build the Florida Panthers.

April 12, 2021 TRADED Sam BENNETT, along with a sixth-round pick in 2022, to the Florida Panthers in exchange for the rights to Emil Heineman and a second-round pick in 2022.

July 22, 2022 TRADED Matthew TKACHUK to the Florida Panthers along with a conditional fourth-round draft pick in 2025 in exchange for Jonathan Huberdeau, Cole Schwindt, Mackenzie Weegar and a lottery-protected first-round pick in 2025.

Congrats Brad!

Put him in the Hall in the builders category.

Meh those guys wouldn't have done anything if they stayed in Calgary. In Bennett's last year, he was literally on a sub 10 goal pace and Tkachuk wanted out.

Great players, but they're in a great system that allows them to thrive.
You can force players to stay! Obviously.

It’s bittersweet.

On one hand, the Flames absolutely destroyed Bennetts confidence with how they deployed him (moving him around the line up constantly, put him on the wing when he’s a natural centre, he had 5 f***ing coaches in 6 years).

Conroy was on a Flames podcast today, he said the only coach who knew what he had in Benny was Bob Hartley. Bennett scored 18 goals in his rookie season under him, he looked great.

After Gulutzan was hired, Bennett was cooked. Never given a proper chance to show what he was made of, and to be fair to the Flames organization, Bennett did not really look that good at centre here. The problem is the team gave him a very short leash. That f***ed with him hard.

Tkachuk, on the other hand, looked great from day one in Calgary. It was Trelivings stubbornness that led us to bridging him when he was willing to sign long term, same with Johnny. He was willing to sign long term before his UFA season but BT got cold feet and Johnny was unwilling to negotiate during the season.

All in all, Treliving is not good at identifying talent nor is he patient.

To be fair, Brad's Toronto Maple Leafs put up a bigger fight than Edmonton.

Granted, they choked and ended up eating shite. But still.

Did end up being a decent player with that pick?

Calgary's usage of Bennett was idiotic.

Florida actually used him in a top six role, with top six linemates, and look at what happened.

Nope, Treliving traded it for Calle Jarnkrok who scored exactly one goal in a Flames uniform. He selected Topi Ronni in that 2022 2nd round with the Flames own pick who ended up being charged criminally with rape in Finland and who's connection with the team and his rights were terminated shortly after.

To be fair that 2021 Flames team was so stacked in hindsight, wonder how far they’d have made it if they didn’t change it

Bennett is what I thought (and still kind of think) Tanner Jeannot could have been with Tampa if they just stuck him in the top 6 and he didn’t get hurt so damn much. But alas

BOTH Gaudreau and Tkachuk wanted to re-sign long-term with the Flames. Treliving bridged Tkachuk and let Johnny walk right out the door as a UFA. Even Bennett rescinded his trade request after Sutter was hired. In fact Sutter asked him to give him some time to work with Sam. 2-3 weeks later Treliving shipped him off to FLA for pennies on the dollar.

Watching the Panthers in the playoffs these last 2 years makes me think about what could have been. F U Brad! :madfire:

Wow... didn't know 18 year old Sam Bennett had 18 goals
