Its looking like the wildcard race in the East is going to be exciting

I know its early but this race is shaping up to be a great storyline and it may be worth it to get a thread up and going.
As it sits
CBJ 50 pts 45GP
BOS 49pts 46GP
OTT 48pts 44GP
MTL 48pts 44GP
DET 46pts 44GP
PHI 46pts 46GP
NYR 45pts 44GP
PIT 44pts 46GP
NYI 41pts 44GP
BUF 39pts 44GP
Another storyline is the Canadian teams. Ottawa and Montreal could realistically end up 7th and 8th in the east while Calgary and Vancouver end up 7th and 8th in the west.

Toronto, Winnipeg and Edmonton are virtual locks for the playoffs.

We could have all 7 Canadian teams in the playoffs this year. Or just 3. But all 7 are at least competing.

It's nice that for once the eight playoff teams aren't practically decided by mid-season. The bottom of the Atlantic has been bad for so long but looks like one or two of them may finally break through.

The Wildcard race looks more like someone has to make the playoffs, but noone probably deserves it.
Really exciting.

I think CBJ, Ottawa, Detroit, and Montreal are all fun/interesting teams that could give anyone a run with how they're playing right now. Boston is clearly on a downward trajectory and probably falls out.

If Det and MTL keep winning at a similar rate, we could see them bump FLA and TB out of A2 and A3. That would kinda kill the wild card drama because it would put FLA and TB in WC1 and WC2 then a big gap.
That would be the most Leafish outcome, finally win the division and get the Panthers 1st round.

Edit: maybe they won't catch the Panthers, for some reason I thought they were sitting at 52 points

Really exciting.

The western divisions both have two or three weak teams to beat up. More powerhouse and garbage teams in the west, but more parity in the east. Not sure how a division with only one team below .500 isn’t exciting. Every night standings could shift your team 2-3 spots.

Ottawa could also finished in the top 3, when Ullmark returns they will have one of the best goalie tandem in the league with Leevi Merilainen. Also they finished the season playing 7 of the last 8 games at home. Don't sleep on the Sens!

I really want to see BUF or OTT make the playoffs this season. Both those teams have a lot of cool storylines.

It's not just the WC battle. A few of teams above WC placing, between the 2 divisions, have really gone stale (look at some of the Last 10 records). It's a surprisingly close race and Washington is really the only comfortable team.

It's the Leafs worst nightmare to face off again against Montreal in round one. I see them gooning it up this Saturday targeting the top Montreal players much like in the preseason when they targeted a cheapshot at the knee of Laine.

I'd like to think the Leafs beat the Habs but at this point nothing surprises me. They are losers until proven otherwise

I was about to say, Columbus and Philly aren't THAT far from Carolina.
