So last night was yet another example of how the Canes can’t play against elite centers like Jack Eichel. We are screwed.

I don't think that's what was ever said (or maybe I missed it). The discussion around the Avalanche was that their star players showed up and ours didn't, something RBA agreed with in the postgame. Likewise, Eichel did his damage in this game, while Aho and Svech once again we're a bit of no-shows.

Now ultimately, if we can win games without those two showing up, that's great. No complaints there. But if we assume that Necas' line will eventually cool off, we'd better hope that the top line is out of whatever funk they're dealing with by that point.

Eh, Eichel got a goal and assist in when the game was already out of reach, was only 41% from the FO dot, was a -2 and had a 43% CF% and even worse 28% xGF% on the night. I'm not saying Aho or Svech played great, but I don't think Eichel really did much damage at all, in fact, for the most part, he was more of a negative on the ice last night than a positive.

Aho, by contrast was on the ice for 8 (3 HD) Scoring chances for and 4 (1 HD) against, had a 62% CF% and a 69% xGF%. Certainly they have to start showing up on the scoresheet as well, but I don't think Eichel was anything special or did much damage at all last night.

True. I look at it from an optimistic POV though. It stand to reason that players that historically have performed better will "regress to the norm" as much as players that are on a heater. And the team has the 2nd best record in the NHL while missing their starting goalie and having two of their top 4 scorers not being very impactful yet.

I was visiting my little girl in LA and I was trying to watch the game last night but I couldn’t. Did anyone else have any problems with the app?

Also when riding Svech and Aho for seemingly not showing up keep in mind good top teams are top teams because if you manage to shut down one group another comes through. I'll worry about Svech and Aho when teams manage to shut down Nachis and they still aren't scoring
Exactly.

Let's look at our start. We're 11-3. Leading the division (essentially). A ridiculous +23 goal differential after 14 games. 59 goals for (4.2 goals per game!).

Necas is showing he is a star player. Kotkaniemi looks to have rebounded. Our new acquisitions are guns ablazing. Kochetkov looks good. Burns looks good.

Like, these were *all* the concerns about our team going into the year. No one walked into 2024-2025 thinking "damn the Canes might be good but Sebastian Aho as a 1C? I dunno". Everybody knows he is a good player and will have a good year regardless. Svech is also actually playing pretty well this year even if he is having his moments. Dude is on pace for an 82 point season.

I would 1000x rather this team be having these "problems" as they are, rather than saying one of the following:

Kooch is not an NHL goalie
Robinson is not an NHL forward
Walker and Ghost are not transitioning to our scheme
Kotkaniemi looks lost out there
Jack Roslovic is bad defensively and isn't hitting the open net

ALL of these concerns, so far, are far from the truth. Let's be mindful when bitching about Aho not scoring one goal in one game when we're freaking 11-3 and have generally been competitive or better in our 3 losses.

Yea, I'll happily take our star players fairly passively putting up roughly PPG pace while not looking at all dominant, because when they fully wake up it'll take a lot of pressure off the other guys and really open up our scoring threats. If Necas, Roslovic, and the rest of our team wasn't performing I'd be more worried, but as long as the depth is scoring we don't NEED our first line to be dominating right now. I'd like to see them look more dominant (at least a few of their points are from ENG scoring), but hopefully they'll start to develop more chemistry
