Soda made some A++ saves in the first half of that game yesterday.
It was the turnovers in the second and third that made the difference. Hawks hung him out to dry.

No team is going to be perfect. Breakdowns are going to happen.
You can’t just say because it’s a higher danger chance that the goalie has no shot to make a save. Bail out your team once in awhile, they haven’t done that at all, Knight especially.

They aren’t giving up breakaways though. It’s stupid turnovers at the blue line leading to cross ice passes and goalies getting sniped because they can’t get set.

Sure, the bolded is a true statement. But if the discrepancy in high danger chances is so great, it matters.
If the Hawks goaltenders were to save the same percentage of high danger chances as the opposition, you're still looking at a 6 goal differential over 9 games or .66 goals against per game at 5x5. That's a pretty tall mountain to climb.

If Soderblom and Knight were merely tasked with bailing out the team "once in a while", I'm sure they'd be just fine. It's not once in a while though, it's every game, multiple times a game and I have no doubt it wears on them mentally. I made the same argument with Soderblom last year when he was really fighting it, that's probably affecting Knight right now, which is when you're bombarded every night and giving up 2-3 goals on chances you don't have much shot of stopping, but then you give up a soft goal on top of that, it just rattles you. Now you're second guessing yourself, not playing instinctively, not trusting yourself or your teammates to cover options or clean up a rebound.
The Stone goal on Knight against Vegas is a great example. Against LA, his first game here, he would have stopped that. But now? After 9 games of playing behind this team, he was probably expecting Stone to make a play east-west/backdoor and got caught in-between.

Hey Ben Pope you dip shit, goalies on bad teams put up bad numbers. This is one of youngest most inexperienced D cores in the NHL and both of these goalies are 25 and 23. They make mistakes and there is nowhere to hide for the goalies.

Show some class. Ben puts out alot of great work in his articles. You may not like or completely agree with his articles and that's fine. But to call him a dipshit? Especially since he is a guy who post here? Grow up.
I think I read that at least 3 of the goals yesterday were deflections at the net. thats as more on the d then the goalie. if its deflected a foot or 2 and it stays on net your odds of saving it are low.

I’m not worried about the goaltending yet. We’re starting fresh next year with a hopefully new and much improved roster

specifically its happening to Vlasic a lot. he's getting forechecked behind the net quite a bit by an aggressive winger and turning it over. Knight is also making ill advised passes to open defensemen around the net who have someone crashing down on them. How this has happened since the end of February and not a single adjustment is happening is baffling to me.

Makes me wonder how many NHL people (players, coaches, writers, etc) have accounts here but act as anyone else behind a screen. I know Pope actually called himself BenPopeCST or whatever but I have to wonder.
Vlasic has again started to fade, like last year, still our ‘ace in the whole’ on defence, he’s getting burnt out, like last year, i’m not concerned, lots of different looks on defence…they seem to be giving Levshunov a ‘free pass’ to see what they have…he didn’t have a training camp and like Vlasic I’m not concerned
They have a glut of promise back there
In net im also not concerned with possibly a tandem of Knight-Commesso next season
Soderblom and Brossiot have to be decided on

I said "act like an ass". Calling someone who posts here (or did until their account unintentionally got deleted) a dipshit is acting like an ass.
I don't fully agree with Pope's article, but if I wanted to critique it, I could without insulting the guy for it. I wouldn't even think of insulting him, especially seeing as he's aware of this site and might read what I post.
Have a little more respect for the people who might frequent this site.
