Itan Chavira

At the very least the kid should get some interest on the college Div 1 or 2 level. I'd take it if I were him. He probably won't get a sniff from the canadian juniors or their american counterparts. Good for him though. Seems to be proving everyone wrong every step of the way. Especially those idiots who are so quick to knock a creative player with their chants of "oh yeah, wait till he gets his head knocked off"..
stupid.
you'd rather watch big ol' derian hatcher lumber down the ice than see a kid pull a move that'd inspire countless others? do you even know how many kids have picked up a hockey stick thanks to robbie schremp and rob hisey? Now ask yourself how many have done the same because of your big oxes hatcher, primeau and the like.

good luck kid.. knock em dead

Not to nit pick but change the 2 to a 3 and you are good. :thumbu: theres only Division I and III hockey

Does this dude seriously have enough talent to play in the NHL. I mean inline and ice are way different. It's obvious the kid's got great hands and vision which will translate to ice hockey. You cant lose your hands, vision, and just overall understanding of the game. Is there even off sides in his pro inline league. I know in my inline league that there's no icing and no off-sides which I always thought was kinda dumb. Anyway's I have a friend who is an unbeilavable Sick Inline player. He can probably do just about everything Itan Chavira does in his highlight video. But he wont try them in games like Chavira even though he could do it and pull it off. He' s not a cocky player at all and is very down to earth. To me his passing skills and vision arethe best part of his game though. Just unbeilavable Vision. After he saw Chavira's video he said if this kid can make it that he could to. He's never played organized Ice hockey and its really a shame to. He could have had a future in the NHL. No doubt in my mind thats how talented this kid is. The one fancy move he does like to use every now and again is the Michigan Move. We were in the Championship game last season and he scored 2 goals from behind the net. He also scored 6 other goals and had 4 assists. His stats last season for our league 12gp-83g-41a-124pts

What city do you play in?

I've played ice hockey with plenty of NHLers and have played some very high level roller hockey too. Looking at them independantly some of the top end puck skills on the roller rink is as high or higher than a few NHL all-stars that I've played with. However it is a completely different game and none of the roller hockey guys I know that have the insane puck skills could even play ECHL level on the ice.

There is so much more time and space in roller hockey it makes it hard to even compare roller and ice.

Pittsburgh. Yes your statement is true but he still has some amazing skills. If he would have started playin ice instead of roller then maybe yes he would have went to the NHL. But now its just too late.

I emailed him, and he's only been playing ice hockey for 3 years. The regular season in the MJAHL is now wrapped up, and Chavira lost the scoring race, by 1 point. He finished the season with 85 points, and the scoring leader finsihed with 86. Chavira had 41 goals and 44 assists in 52 games.

MJAHL is 2nd-tier junior but is it at the same level as the BCHL or AJHL in terms of overall talent level of the league?

It's good to hear his skills won't be lost in the move to Ice Hockey.
As for Itan making it to the show, don't get me wrong I'm definatly rooting for him.

It would be a great story for hockey. But beyond that, it might blaze a new path for kids to follow to make it to the NHL, especially for those that grew up playing the game on roller blades in warmer climates.
He wouldn't be the first one. Theres a few guys right now out of Southern California that all grew up playing roller and made the switch to ice and are at high levels of pro hockey. They are all right around the same age too.

I know he was discussed a whole back. he did pretty well in the the WHL. The latest rumor was he was going to play in Austria. Just curious if anyone else has heard anything? I've seen him play and played against him in roller. Best hands ever.

Anyways check out his latest video (appearance from Tom McCullom as well who the Wings drafted in the first round this year):

Chavira did not play in the WHL as far as i know, only a few games in the USHL. During the summer camps he tried out for Red Bull Salzburg in Austria, but was cut. I don't know where he is going to play now.

don't let donald brashear see this. playing half naked roller hockey in your underwear is gay.

nice tricks though.

He played in the MJAHL last year.

Let me sum up the ensuing thread:

POSTER 1: Yeah, but lets see them in a game
POSTER 2: They have
POSTER 3: In a REAL game.
POSTER 4: What's a REAL game
POSTER 5: meh
POSTER 6: I know these guys and they're sick.
POSTER 7: Dustin Rose

Seriously, this is like hockey's And-1. It's fun to watch. I hope there is somebody that comes along and does this in the NHL.

Hey dig this guys! Itan tried out for the open tryouts for the new ECHL Ontario Reign(affiliates of the Los Angeles Kings) and he made camp by pulling a Michigan college goal and some sick dangles! He has been very impressive in practice! Here is a write up they did in the papers a few days ago.

They have a game Friday @ 7pm and Sunday. If he does well he will probably be signed to the team!

To all the people dissing inline to ice transitions, I grew up playing with/against Rocco Grimaldi. He played roller and learned all of his skating and stickhandling awesomeness in roller. He transfered to ice and didn't skip a beat. Now he is expected to go in the top 30 of the '11 draft.

However in the games at NARCh that I saw Itan Chavira play in he was a cherry-picker and showed almost a contempt for defense. Now this is often the case for a lot of forwards in roller hockey, but I think that if he was put into a pro/minor pro situation he would be a liability on the ice for his defensive play.

Go watch him play in person, before you judge him like all the other haters!

Itan might only be 5'8'' but he's not afraid to check a player and WILL lift u off your feet if he needs to! This kid is just as exciting of a hockey player as Ovechkin and Crosby. Some people last night were saying his Dangl he put on the Baskersfield goalie was illegal, it's just that nobody has seen goals like this on ice! He doesn't showboat after he scores and to him it's just another way of scoring! NO HARD FEELINGS TO U GOALIES HE FACES!

I'm glad to see a thread about Itan on here. I somewhat know him and he is a great person. He does have out of this world talent with the puck. I don't know if he will play in the NHL, AHL, ECHL, D1 etc. but I do wish him the best luck because he works very hard and is very thankful for that god givin talent he has.
