I imagine it would be a trade much like when LA traded Gretzky to STL. The only other name I even remember from that trade is Patrice Tardif. LA basically got a bunch of the Blues' table scraps (Craig Johnson, Tardif, and Roman Vopat) plus two draft picks that didn't become anything. I know it was the pre-cap when this happened, but if that's all LA got for 99, yeesh. That said, whoever traded for either McD or Drai would be coughing up a lot of draft picks and a prospect or two or three, plus a roster player or two for cap purposes. My hold prediction would be that it wouldn't pan out much for anyone involved. If Edmonton trades Connor McDavid it's because Connor asked to be traded and will likely pick his destination or be very selected. In which case the return won't be nearly what some want it to be (It will still be very good).
My other bold prediction is that if McDavid or Drai ever win a cup, it will happen the same way it did for Ray Bourque: getting traded as a rental in the final year of one's career to a team that doesn't suck and has good odds to win the cup that year.
