I am pretty hot ****, yeah.

But not about hockey. I don't know **** about hockey, really. I just think Shane does, and Rod definitely does, and they both disagreed with your hot lava take, so. Whatever.

You have a quote from Rod definitely agreeing with Shane that we played a great game? He sounded pretty frustrated, so whatever.

Im so glad I skipped this game.

Eating popcorn and watching people snipe at each other over a November hockey game is always worth it.

My hot take: trade Aho. @ME bros

So Foegele made a sloppy play to the middle which ended up in our net on the tie breaker. Aho was covering back on defense and instead of staying with his man drifted to the middle to cut down the passing angle to play the puck instead of the man. It ends up in his feet in an awkward play where after booting it he takes a half assed slap at it which becomes a turnover that becomes their third goal.

That line did not have a good game and I barely noticed Svech, who has pretty much been the one forward to show the ability to make a big play fairly consistently this season.

I didn’t think we were that bad but no one stepped up to make the play we needed, and some sloppy play defensively unsurprisingly ended it. Someone has to step up.

I really dont want to pile on Staal but I'm less and less comfortable with him in a leadership position all the time. I know it's not fair to hold his brother against him, but even without that there was the co captain debacle which wasnt his fault but still... hes really only had two hot streaks since hes been here. Hope Williams comes back soon and he assumes his old role without there being any weirdness

I need more evidence that the captain makes that much difference.
  • Staal was the captain the first five games and the Canes were terrific
  • While I don't follow NYI closely, I don't see Lee being significantly more inspiring than Tavares
  • Pietrangelo became captain in 16-17. Second-round loss, missed the playoffs, Stanley Cup.

As I have mentioned before, the Canes were 10 points behind the Wild Card in December. Williams had been captain up that point.
Starting in the middle of December: Darling started 0 games; Aho/TT became penalty killers; Niederreiter was acquired; Pesce and Faulk were paired on D. All those make more sense as explanations for the Canes amazing rise in the standings than post-game energy.

It's not letters sewn on sweaters. Leaders lead.

Its crappy goaltending. Running 7 defensemen. Good players not playing well. Having a starter in goal who plays better when he's sharing the workload, but having a terrible backup the coach doesnt trust, carrying a 7th d man who plays 2 minutes a might instead of a 12th forward, etc.

All I know is, I hadn’t ever really heard of 11/7 on a regular basis until Boucher did it in Ottawa. And it was a disaster. You just don’t have the continuity at both F and D.
I’m really curious why they are doing this.

Anyone else think we may have a problem with Edmundson? I get the size thing, but he isn't overly physical and gets beat way too often for my liking. That in itself is concerning enough, but he can't be taking the amount of penalites.
At the end of the day, we need another top 6 player. I was hoping Foegele would step up, but I don't see it. In the meanwhile, why not move Necas up with Aho and Svech? We could use the scoring punch.

To my eye, the problem with this team is three fold: too many penalties (How many of our losses would be wins if we were one of the least penalized teams instead of the most?), too little effort given by some of our forwards in the defensive zone (Losing their guys and failures to clear pucks due to lazy efforts has cost us goals against.), and too many defensemen (I'm not buying what Rod is selling, having guys double shift doesn't help the effort level at the end of the games for the forwards.).

I assume it's got something to do with the Fleury/TVR trade rumors, but I don't see the benefit of "showcasing" these players by making the team actively worse in using 11/7, especially after making the player you're "showcasing" a healthy scratch for 4 games in a row.

No one is salivating over Fleury/TVR. They are what they are at this point. Get what you can and stop the bleeding.

Maybe, but it's not like anyone in Charlotte is pushing to force a call-up either, other than maybe Geekie (who is also -10) or Luostaranen. Gibbons is the 2nd leading scorer playing only 6 games.

Kuokkanen: 5 points in 10 games.
Gauthier: 4 points in 8 games
Lorentz: 3 points in 10 games
Bishop: 0 points in 10 games

I guess Bishop as a 4th liner would be the only guy because Rod probably trusts him. I'd rather do that than the 7 D situation longer term.

Recap: Canes Topped by Flyers
by Michael Smith @MSmithCanes / CarolinaHurricanes.com

"I thought we were playing well and deserved a little more," head coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "It's a frustrating game for me because I think had we just stuck to it a little bit more, maybe things would have been different. Their goalie was good, and they capitalized."
The Hurricanes had their chances to score, to be sure. Carter Hart turned aside 14 shots in the first period alone, a few of which were grade-A scoring opportunities.
"I'll be blunt. We've changed our group this year a little bit, and we're talented. But that doesn't win. That does not win if you don't get to the net, grind out the goals first and grind that mentality," Brind'Amour said. "When you're looking for all that pretty stuff - you'll get one or two nice ones here or there, and you'll go, 'Oh, nice, beautiful,' but it's the traffic - you've got to get to the net and overshoot the puck to create the chaos. That's what we're not doing and haven't done really all year. That's my job. I've got to rein these guys in and change their mindset a little bit. We'll get there."
Sometimes, the simplest play is the smartest play.

Well, if the rumors are true, we're looking for a top 9 forward for Fleury/TVR, so that would fill out the roster.

I don't know how much the change will help, since the root of the poor play seems to be much deeper than a simple roster change, but at this point, it couldn't hurt and it might wake them up out of whatever funk they're in.
