Confirmed with Link: Isles sign Quinnipiac Defenseman Mike Dalhusien

I don't know if this could be considered official, but found this article, and in it, they have an actual picture of him signing the contract at the islander's game last night.

The picture looks like a dead giveaway. Pretty much insures that Kichton won't be signed. This is for you Scott, it pushes your favorite Islanders draft pick, the 4th rounder from last summer down the depth chart.

lol Rex, my favorite 4th round pick ever, the infamous Luc Ledoufus.

At least they picked up Pokka and Pelech in the two rounds before him. Might have to watch how the high school kids do next year in college, Somerby at BU and Bishoff at Minnesota, recruits to top programs. What they become we will see

Somerby played 8 games in the USHL with Muskegan getting one goal, after his high school season was over.

By your description, he sounds like a mix between Larry Robinson and Scott Stevens. Glad you brought the enthusiasm down and gave a good comparison to a current NHL'er.

Considering he had 38 points in a full 4 year career, I doubt he is as good offensively as you say. BUT, being 6'3" 215, good skater and plays with sandpaper and passion, I'll take that any day of the week, who cares about the offense.

Only reason I think he has offensive ability is because of his shot. He can be put on an NHL power play and score, so he could get 6-8PP goals and maybe no assists (maybe some from deflections/rebounds).

Rex, I was pretty upset with the "draft all defensemen" draft last June. After Pelech, the draft was just a throw away, and pretty obnoxious. There was so much talent available, even in round 4 and later. When I saw the Leduc pick, a 6'6" doofus that can't skate, can't fight, and has no offensive ability, I thought "what a waste of a pick". I think ISS had him rated like 196 overall (the only place that had him rated at all). Our team had to prove to the hockey world that we are smarter than anyone else, and chose him 103rd overall. After Dallas finished laughing, the picked the talented Gemel Smith immediately after the Leduc pick. Detroit did their usual great drafting and picked the speedy, talented Andreas Athanasiou, Nashvilled grabbed Zachary Stepan, Florida picked a Russian offensive d-man who scored 20 goals in junior, Alexander Delnov. I can go on and on.

Isles continue to add to the United Nations Team. We've already got 10 different countries represented on the roster. All we need is Richard Park back to add South Korea to the mix.

We got 8 on the current roster, and 12 total countries if you count all our prospects.

1. Canada - Tavares, etc.
2. USA - Okposo, etc.
3. Austria - Grabner
4. Russia - Nabokov, etc.
5. Denmark - Nielsen
6. Switzerland - Streit
7. Czech Republic - Martinek
8. Slovokia - Lubo
----
9. Holland - Dalhusien
10. Sweden - Nilsson, etc.
11. Finland - Pokka
12. Lithuania - Pedan

FWIW Nabby is from Kazakhstan.

I believe the top 8 would all play for their countries in the upcoming Olympics except Nabokov and Okposo, though if Kyle can keep up his play he may have a shot.

I love USA hockey so i'm pulling for him to make it. It helps that he has a history with the national team. But there is a lot of young talent in the country right now, it won't be easy.

Russian goalies are on a downward trend, they should give Nabby a look as backup but prob won't happen.

Looks like a great signing. Can't he start next season? Don't college grads usually do that? Maybe 1/2 season in the AHL? Isles can really use this guy.

The Isles blue line is going to be scary huge in 2-3 years.

I just keep on getting more and more excited about this team.

He's LH. As a guy who's watched him for three years, I can give you a scouting report on him.

His shot his NHL calibre. At times my friends are I were begging him to shoot from our goal line, because he may be the only guy we know that can possibly take a shot from there and score. He has a quick release on his slap shot and knows when to use it, he usually doesn't hit the guy in front of him. It gets through traffic. Basically, he has offensive abilities. He did play with probably the best defensive defenseman in college in Danny Federico, so having someone like him on his side helped him a lot. I'm sure if he played with Mayfield he'd be fine.

He's a physical monster, probably the most physical defenseman in all of college. He hits to get through you, and makes his presence felt early. The best part about him signing in the professionals on Dalhuisen's personal level is he can now fight. If you fight in college, you get suspended. He's going to take his chances fighting the best of the best, and he could very well win those fights.

He has a very, very short temper. Like, very short. The second he gets pissed off, there's no off switch. If he's playing in Bridgeport, he's going to protect Nino, Nelson, Sundstrom, et al. This scares me into thinking he may turn into a goon for his career, but he's a good hockey player so I hope that's not what happens to him.

All in all, he's a good, physical defenseman. Does he have NHL potential? I would say yes because he has the size and the slap shot. If I had to compare him to anyone in the NHL, I'd say Marc Methot with more offense but probably weaker defensively.

Big defenseman with a cannon slapper and goes into Hulk rage at the drop of a pin...

You could say that makes me this ^^ kind of happy.

I really can't wait to see this guy in action.

Something tells me that Garth's vision was some kind of meeting ground between mid-90's Detroit offense & leadership with an equal dose of an ability to escalate and pummel like the '75 Flyers.

I can't wait. :D

Pedan is Russian but born in Lithuania. Nabokov was born in present day Kazakhstan but is also ethnically Russian

joensuu is finnish

i like this signing for bridgeport from what i've read in this thread. but i don't think he'll be an nhl'er

All of these fights are from his time in the USHL. He was in the top 10 in fights every year he played.

After watching each of these I kind of wonder about his self-discipline. In the last one he kept hitting a smaller guy while he was down. There is something a little disconcerting about these videos. I hope that he learned something the last few years in college and does not act this way in the pro game.

Followed his (and other dutch players who came to the USA) career since he's from my hometown. Guess I'll be cheering on the Islanders soon as well when he gets called up. Definitly need myself a Dalhuisen jersey then ;)

I wonder if he's the first ever Dutch player to sign an NHL deal? The Dutch are the best skating nation in the world but hockey is tiny there.

First 100 % dutch player atleast. In the 60's there was Ed Kea I think, but he was Dutch-Canadian and was raised in Ontario.

Netherlands, wow.

Looks like he may have been raised in Ontario though.

Raised in Holland but moved to the USA to play in the USHL

So this isn't a rumor anymore? This is for real? He signed for sure and everything?

heard an interview on the Dutch radio with him. He atleast had offers from the Ducks, Wild as well. Took a deal for less money because he would get more opportunities here.

He confirmed that he would start the season in Bridgeport.
