Wahlstrom with a massive Ovechkin-esque one-timer puts USA up 5-1 on Germany.
I'd love to see Wahlstrom have a Bellows like tournament, Bellows scored 9 goals 2 years ago I believe, which broke Roenick's record for most by an American in a tournament.

If anyone's having that tournament, it's probably Caufield. Small King Cole is insanely skilled. I hope he's able to make it in the NHL.. Would have been nice to have him, but he went well before our pick.

Krygier was among the last cuts. Pivonka and obviously Wally made the squad.

Also, Caufield is such an elite goal scorer. Kid potted 4 goals today.

Honestly, they probably wouldn't have taken him. They passed up so much great talent to waste a pick on Holstrom.

I am hoping that Wahlstrom can use his time with team USA to build some confidence and bring that back to Bridgeport. He has obvious talent and a bit of the flair and enthusiasm that appeals to certain parts of the fan base. Ideally everyone we draft in the first round is an overnight success, but realistically we know that doesn't happen. That's why I enjoy watching the whole maturity process of prospects. What is even better is that we don't have to watch that process on the big club any more. It can happen properly where the stumbles aren't under the bright lights.

They didn’t waste a pick on Holmstrom. He’s a good player and was projected so low because of injuries during the year. He’s not off the a great start in Bridgeport but what do you expect from an 18 year old European

He probably wanted one of the players sent back to Junior team (lesser competition than grown men in AHL)

Not sure Lou is going to like that ! Pretty sure that will be quietly mentioned as a no go
For Pro ala Lou style

Can't say I like it either. If his prior performances and trajectory were off the charts then I get it. But despite a good training camp, this year has been forgettable. Seems like a JHS move. Act like you've been there before.

With that being said, he's 19 and he's our guy so I suppose it's fine.

Pot a few more goals like that and then he can act like Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielson).

Well, first upset of the WJHC is in the books as the Czechs hold on for a 4-3 win over a very undisciplined Russian team. Should have been a blowout with all the man up advantages the Czechs had (TWO 5 on 3's for almost a full 2 minutes) Askarov certainly didn't look like a Top 5 pick today. Dobson teammate Lauko from last year's Memorial Cup win injured in the 1st shift of the game. Nasty looking.

USA up 2-0 on Canada after one. Both PP goals. Wahlstrom looks like he'll need a game or so to fit in after the last minute addition to the roster. How good is the U.S. potentially? Kaliyev, Turcotte and Caulfield are all 2nd team PP!

Wahlstrom has an assist taken away as the USA goal was just after the buzzer.
USA coach with such odd line combinations.

the equivalent to having Barzal on the 3rd line playing wing with Komarov at center.
