I have thought of a solution to make the referees more visible on the ice.
1. Forbid teams from wearing orange.
2. Make referees wear orange.
3. Anaheim goes back to wearing eggplant and jade.
4. Everybody is happy, except Flyers fans.
5. The Flyers are compensated with Ryder, Halak and a 2nd.
Looks like a trip where his feet come up? Or stick?Watch it a few more times.
punching a linesman in a fight used to get you a 10 minute misconduct, nothing more
Players who are color blind might have trouble with that.
Right, and even then the penalty would have been MUCH stiffer if they thought it was intentional. But hitting a linesman will always come with a sizable penalty, even if clearly unintentional.
Likewise, hitting and injuring a ref like this comes with a big penalty. If they thought it was 100% deliberate they’d probably have banned him for life.
that's the funny thing, he isn't. Main thing holding him back from a NHL career is a lack of strength.that guy is strong
Dude is losing a 10 games salary which is $17k+ for this guy. For a guy making $125k, after taxes and agent fees, that's a pretty big cut into his net.
And he doesn't have a contract next year, he's going to have a black mark and it's going to be hard for him to get an AHL contract IMO.
Europe he goes

They'll manage. There's 4 people on the ice with actual blindness every game.Players who are color blind might have trouble with that.
I love how the letter of the law applies to touching the ref, but when it comes to actually enforcing infractions on players the refs let everything go.Seems legit. He "deliberately applied physical force" (the shove) to the ref w/o intent to injure and received the automatic 10 as defined by the rule.
The way it's written, it really doesn't matter if he realized if it was the ref or not; it's holding the person using physical force responsible for it. This is nothing new.
Inadvertent actions are penalized/punished all the time in hockey. 99% of high sticking penalties are inadvertent, the player is still held responsible for his stick. Using physical force against someone is as well; If a player throws a punch in a scrum and inadvertently tags a linesman, they're held responsible for throwing the punch.
Best case, the dude didn't check to see clearly who he was shoving, just assuming it was another player. All those zebra stripes must've created a wonky vertigo that hid the high-vis orange armband. Oops.
