Yikes, lucky he only got 10 games. Realized right when it did it that he f***ed up bad.
Pretty much, and the instant "oh shit" backs this up.The ref was so out of normal positioning that Beckman thought he was an opposing player.
In position or out of position. He tried to. Beckman changed his path and the ref even puts his arm out. Beckman gave 0 f's.Ref needs to get out of the way there.
If that had been an opponent, the shove is completely within the bounds of normal gameplay, and wouldn't even register as an event of any note. But the ref wasn't prepared for contact, and it's a bad result. I don't see how this is suspension worthy, unless they determined there was intent.
Also very fair, but that ref should probably take a seat for a while until he learns how to position himself on the iceIn principle I agree, but in practice the league can’t put themselves in the position of trying to read into a player’s intentions when it comes to demolishing a ref.
So then they shouldn't be suspending a guy for shoving a ref in a spot on the ice where he would be completely within his rights top shove an opponent. The ref shouldn't have been there, Beckman had no reason to expect a ref to be right in his way. He's focused on the puck.In principle I agree, but in practice the league can’t put themselves in the position of trying to read into a player’s intentions when it comes to demolishing a ref.
