Like it. Not earth shattering- but big believer that you can never have enough goalies in your organization.

One-Way does not mean he has to be in the NHL it just means he gets paid the same salary if he is in the NHL or AHL.
And Lou has talked about it openly since Schneider retiredThe organization had no legitimate #3 goaltender.
Thus, this signing.
Me? Waive Varly if there’s no trade for him out there. What do you do if he keeps playing stellar?
With varly? Etc
Nailed it pretty good Chapin!Once Schneider retired, we didn't address the "3rd goalie" scenario and it became very clear for all watching on the farm that if either Sorokin or Varlamov were to fall, we'd have no-one even near capable of filling in as a permanent back-up for a sustained period of time.
I can say that Högberg has played the past 3 seasons for Linköping, a team that was pretty decent this past season, but pretty much lousy the two years before. He was understood as a top 3 goalie in the SHL who won several games a year on his own and stood on his head in keeping some losses very close along the way. I've seen some highlights along the way that had me thinking he was a tick too good for the SHL and I wondered if he'd get another shot.
He was actually Ottawa's back-up for two seasons during the initial pandemic years and before heading back to Sweden.
He's older, so you've gotta think that his addition is all about having a 3rd stringer they'd have no qualms in turning to.
Should prove to be an interesting addition. He's a big boy to boot.
Do you know yet?OMG!!!!! Thats awesome!!!!
(Who the hell is Marcus Hogberg?)
He's not reliable enough physically to be a backup. It's not worthwhile to retain past this year. Nobody will trade for him. imo he was the cost of doing business for signing Sorokin. I doubt he'll make it beyond another partial year before he's LTIRetires. I think it's more likely Hogberg remains an Islander next year. Backups are a crap shoot, and he seems as good as any.I’d be very surprised if Lou did anything with Varly. Too loyal and boneheaded. More likely, we lose Hogberg to waivers or we lose him as a FA over the summer.
Well then we will need to carry 3 goalies the rest of the year once Varly comes back or risk losing Hogberg to waivers. He's not reliable enough physically to be a backup. Sure. Why not?Well then we will need to carry 3 goalies the rest of the year once Varly comes back or risk losing Hogberg to waivers.
Hogberg doesn’t need waivers, he’s an emergency call up.I’d be very surprised if Lou did anything with Varly. Too loyal and boneheaded. More likely, we lose Hogberg to waivers or we lose him as a FA over the summer.
We already have him signed through next season. He's not reliable enough physically to be a backup. It's not worthwhile to retain past this year.
