I wanna see Isles do something... no offense to their fans whatsoever but they are just so damn boring always with their lack of movement to improve

I mean...the Isles just went out last year and made one of the biggest swings, trading the 17th pick for Bowie Horvat. That was as big a move as you typically see in teams these days, trying to improve.

It's not like Lou is just sitting around doing nothing.

But Ehlers would certainly be interest for them to add some pure skill the the lineup. At the expense of Pulock though, i'd think the Jets have to be adding a lot. Top-3 RHD is one of the most valuable commodities. Smallish finesse winger is not. Even talk about Brock Nelson...he's a Top-6C with size and goal-scoring acumen that's better than Ehlers really. What is Winnipeg adding there?

The issue is that Winnipeg fans seem to be adding a #7 defenseman in Villie Heinola and claiming that’s enough of a toss in while knowing all too well the Isles don’t need/want more AHL fluff on the roster wasting spaces. Ideally if anyone on the current roster (under contract) was to go it would be Pageau and not Pulock. Pageau can be replaced by MacLean/Cizikas essentially.

Except he isn't a number 7 D man. He is our top D prospect and made the Jets out of training camp before he suffered an injury that put him out half the year. Yes you would want him and so would your management. You simply don't have the prospects to become cheap quality NHL players to what has become a pretty old bloated lineup.

I could make the argument from afar that Pulock isn't a top 2 guy and probably more a 3/4 guy on a good team. He has never put up the points to be considered a top guy and he wouldn't play in our top 2 he likely steps in and plays on the 2nd pairing.

A signed Ehlers is for Pulock is probably fair but I doubt that is the deal anyways because he probably doesn't waive. The Isles would need to cap dump a forward and likely send us futures or a 3rd team comes in to mix.

I like Ehlers, but not for Pulock. Deal around Mayfield, but not probably gonna happen. We'll just sign someone like Dakota Joshua to a laughable contract. 😢

He’s not a better defenseman than either Pelech or Romanov so by default that makes him a bottom pairing guy within the Isles organization. Toss in the likely signing of Mike Reilly and Heinola becomes a spare at this point. I could go even further to say that trading Pulock and adding Ville in would create a 4/2 balance of left vs right which wouldn’t work ideally unless someone can comfortably play the off side.
The problem comes down to the fact that a top 4 RHD is worth substantially more than a top 6 winger, especially in this case. The add ins aren’t worth it for the Isles and the winger is on the final year of his contract. Essentially the deal is certainty moving forward with a major piece for one team and a stop gap for the other who’s not rebuilding.

I think we've recently learned that Pulock's finacee is from ny and he's building a house on the island .

pretty sure Pageau would have Winnipeg on his no trade list too ; not that I'm trying to suggest Winnipeg could use him . However some cap space does need to open up to aquire Ehlers

Love Ehlers

Zone entry god
and he eats up the neutral zone against any defensive structure.

I like Ehlers but this is basically describing Barzal. Is that really what they need? Always felt like they needed a natural goal scorer. They’ve tried to get that from the draft but Bellows and Wahlstrom have both disappointed.

So basically Ehlers would do what Barzal does (while not being anywhere near the skater Mat is) and it’s still at square one of someone who doesn’t score goals. I said it before, Kyle Connor should be the target forward from Winnipeg if he was available but that would be like the Islanders trading Barzal.
