Something like:

Barzal
Dobson
Engvall

$16 mil cap

for

E Petterson (C)
Willander
Hoglander

$12 mil cap right now, $15 mil next year

?

I don't know on the structure, but yes I think the only way this works if it's C + D for C + D in some capacity. Both sides sort of need the same balance. And yes, I'd expect that involves the Canucks including Willander.

This would make no sense for the isles...it would be a lateral move. That's why this rumor screams BS.... Van and Isles are not a match.

Sometimes lateral moves are because players need a change of scenery.

I could see a Barzal & Dobson for EP40, Soucy & Willander type thing occurring. Just a bunch of guys who aren't happy where they are.

If Vancouver wants to show they're going to commit to competing now to make Hughes happy, they have to sacrifice something, and that is probably Willander. Barzal isn't happy in NY, Dobson probably is going to cost the Islanders too much right now,

God not you again.... all worthless banter or trolling and no facts. OMG 1 year after this lordy!

I know he has 1 more year left after this one. Point is that the Isles have no interest in him for the 85nd time. Stop including him in deals with the Isles because you want to fix the logjam on the backend.

Yeah Please stop putting Willander in any trade discussions...........barring a severe overpayment he's not on the table. Lekkermaki sure..........Willander def. not.......

The thinking is if the Canucks could pickup Dobson and re-sign him long-term then their top 4 d are locked up for a long time. Willander becomes a trading piece anyways.

Hughes - Hronek
Pettersson - Dobson
+ Myers, Soucy, Mancini, EP2 etc

It has to be a 3 way trade, Canucks don’t need Dobson with the current D we have. We need centers now, which is wild given we used to have Miller, Pettersson and Horvat ha!

I wonder if it could be Dobson and pending UFA Nelson (who agrees to a new long-term contract with Vancouver) for Pettersson?
  • Pettersson plays 1C for NYI, with Barzal on his wing. Horvat plays 2C. Pettersson replaces the departing Nelson, whose ask might be too rich for Lou.
  • Nelson plays 1C for Vancouver, Dobson slots into their reconstituted defense corps. and some combination of Chytil/Suter play 2C/3C.
Obviously Lou's current talks with Nelson would potentially crater this trade, if the Isles and the player can come to an agreement first. This proposal could be the backup plan.

First off, that trade you posted is terrible for the Isles. Also, where was it said that Barzal isn’t happy in NY? Because he said an arena was half empty once? Yeah that’s not even close to the case and not once has Mat even remotely hinted at that here.

Dobson could potentially be viewed as Quinn Hughes insurance as well. I mean nobody is replacing Quinn, but if he is going to get moved at some point, having at least a capable puck moving, PP QB already in house makes a trade a little easier to accept.
