I mean I know it's all connected, dominos and all that, but I chuckled when the last included tweet, the conclusion of the first post, was the tweet of the trade of Mark Friedman.

Right? Friedman was a guy we literally didn't bother calling up when Hronek went down. It was only after the defense continued to struggle we gave him a shot. And he wasn't half bad, but nothing special. He's hardly some big domino.

Unless it's a much bigger deal that also involves Horvat, it doesn't make any sense to trade Pettersson now. Our top center would be Chytil...
I agree, I don't understand it and don't think it makes much sense for VAN. There's a bunch more that I didn't post but lots of folks are saying his name is still out there.

I would assume Nelson would go back until everyone is saying Lou is still trying to sign him. Maybe Pageau comes back but going from JT and Petterson to Chytil and Pageau would be maybe an all time downgrade.

Vancouver doing some wild things.
Miller was a big enough culture/locker room changing move but to go ahead and trade EP as well in the same year is bananas.
All while trying to compete? Or is this an extreme retool on the fly?

Obviously has to have Barzal go to Canucks for this to even make sense.

Ok the Friedman thing is a reach lmao. Still not sure how this makes any sense for Vancouver, just posting what some reporters are reporting

Doesn't this create significant holes for both teams?

It's less of an issue for NYI who need goal scoring. imo they like their power play operating through D'Angelo over Dobson, and I think that recognition (not that D'Angelo doesn't have warts, but that Dobson does) is a big part of it. I think it's also been noticed how much Romanov carried the load for their pairing defensively. Dobson has one real strength - the transition game. Adding Pettersson to the PP would transform a team weakness into a strength pretty much right away.

But, yeah, I don't see how it works for Van.

Pageau has negative value. Besides taking faceoffs on his strong side he's been playing the wing. He loses too many battles these days to play center. (Cizikas is taking C responsibilities.)

I am highly skeptical of this, but for all those saying "but their top C will be Chytil! They have nothing for top 6 Cs!" ........ you think NYI is adding EP40 to Horvat, Barzal, AND Nelson (offering extension!), trading their top RHD without including any of those guys to make room?

If anything is happening here, it must be something like EP40 + Hronek for Barzal + Dobson, VAN shuffling pieces around because of lingering locker room issues, NYI also looking to shake things up, avoid committing the $ to Dobson? Something like that? :dunno:

Didn’t Rutherford say in his interview that he thought the core needed change to win? He did move Miller after that interview, but Pettersson might have been on his mind too. The only player JR said is a Canuck forever was Hughes, no?

That would be a fun trade for sure. Live to see it happen.

What's the problem? Barzal plays wing. Although Horvat should be locked in at C, there's no reason any of the others must be locked in as C or W.

something like that, and there were reports that they were open to moving both of them. Just again, the center depth thing makes no sense.

Last time we made a trade with them though, they took the pick and flipped it for Hronek. Maybe there's a similar thought process?
