another massive problem with collapsing your wingers like they do is that when the puck gets turned in the d-zone and they counter attack they have absolutely no chance to get behind the retreating defensemen so its endless 2 on 2s that they never criss cross on so they just dump it in and f*** their transition sucks

What an atrocious penalty kill. Let the islander move it at will with how many cross ice passes then a 2 layer screen point shot. Just show that film to show how not to kill a penalty.

Horrible penalty by Staal too. Nothing like tying the game and taking a lazy penalty literally 15 seconds later.

Did you not see him in the beginning of the season? You can disagree all you want, but the advanced stats, regular stats (he was a +6 or +7, leading the team), and eye test show that he was good defensively. But I think he’s having confidence issues now, and he can’t get into a groove while being played on and off.
