Nothing from me. Nasty development, I was unable to watch the game, so am temporarily out of the loop.

This is so much revisionist history. This board was overjoyed when Maurice was hired long term in April 2014. Maurice had replaced Noel half way through the season before and went 18-12-5 for a .586 winning percentage (108 point pace) compared to Noel's .457 winning percentage. If anyone doubts this just dig back to that time on these boards. Trotz at the time was just coming off a 6th place finish in Nashville after only winning 2 playoff rounds in then a 15 year career. No one was advocating for Trotz at that time.
It is in no way revisionist history. If you look back I was never in favour of hiring Pomo. And spoke up at the time.
I don't care what the majority of the board thought they were wrong.

They should have interviewed the best candidates available that summer. Trotz was one of them. Did they do that no they just extended Pomo ##%% hiring the best available. It was a red flag for me. They hired a medicore coach after a bunch of quitters went on a 10 game run then played Below .500 FACT. I have been saying this since and will continue to do so.

Maybe I should do some digging I wasn't the only one.

forgivable offense imo.

what brought you north, love or monsanto?

Monsanto? No, I'm in finance. Came north due to a great job opportunity, plus a lot of other little things.

I'd planned to stay for just two years. Turned out I loved it here while my own country turned into a toxic mess. Once I discovered the people here and the treatment I get from colleagues, I entertained the idea of staying longer. Covid reinforced that decision. I’m now looking at probably becoming a citizen. Of course, that depends on the season the Jets have…

He frequently misplaced passes to his defencemen or made the wrong choice. One memorable one was ignoring Pionk coming to get the puck behind the net in order to fire a pass along the glass to Dillon who was obviously not ready for that and it caused some additional d-zone time.

I think a lot comes down to miscommunication more than anything but he frequently made the wrong or more difficult choice when he came out to play the puck.

I noticed that 1 mistake, but generally, I thought he handled the puck very well. More aggressively passing than we are used to seeing from Helle.

Lol.
They play a style that almost won them the Cup last year.
They play a style that is necessary to win.

Not disputing that. But that is about the coaches, not the players.

Their roster is not that great. Not horrible either, just not as strong as most contenders. Mostly, it is the same group who were not very good until Trotz came along.

I watch that Islanders team and think man if we played like that with our offensive talent we would be sooooo hard to beat.

When you are born there that gives you a pass. Hawks are the Blues dreaded rival so enjoy that game. You are a good poster but Tuesday we do battle :fence:

Yeah, I grew up with the dreaded rivals thing. But conflicting opinions goes to a whole new level in my family. Quick sketch and personal thoughts you might want to skip:

Dad (surgeon/Republican) is from Chicago and a lifetime Hawks fan. Mom (professor/Democrat) is from Göteborg and will always be a Frölunda fan. My older brothers are approaching 30. One twin (lawyer/Democrat) lives in St. Louis and cheers for Detroit, the other twin (oil business/Republican) lives in New Mexico and is a loud Blues fan. And my gay baby brother is doing his PhD at Harvard and is a rabid Bruins fan. And, he’s a big 6’3” and the only member of our family who still actually plays hockey. His current love interest is also a defenceman, on another team.

The weirdest part is we succeed as a family. I don’t know how my folks survived, but even when all 4 of us were teens together family dinners were fantastic. Still are. The only requirement is civility and quickness of wit. You can hold any opinion you want as long as you can defend it and everybody else has to listen. And for years we loved to argue about hockey. Dad still has bobbleheads of Stan Makita and Chico Maki in his den.

Part of what draws me to HF Boards is the same conflict of opinions and the often respectful and hilarious arguments. And, of course, part of the boards has to be avoided. I don’t do GDTs and, as noted elsewhere, I hit ignore on memes about curves and bouncing boobs (being tall and skinny doesn’t bother me at all, no sir, not one bit), and I take the occasional detox break. But as a place to instantly measure opinions from real hockey fans, these boards can be delightful.

Apart from constant self-deprecation, Winnipeg is an amazing city and its hockey culture can be a rich, delightful stream to swim in. Sadly, my roommate (who is busty and curved, but it doesn’t bother me at all) is not “into” hockey so being able to dip into HF Boards is a delicious treat, if you avoid the childish, repetitive bits.

Okay, enough babble and silliness, back to work.

I usually unignore everyone once preseason starts and then start over. I never end with more than a few posters on ignore by the end of the season.

Let me clarify. Possibly tedious, possibly important, feel free to skip this.

I rarely look at GDTs. I do understand lucky totems; I have an ancestor who flew in a bomber plane with a softcore “pin-up girl” painted on it and he claimed she helped them survive his war. So do what you want in a GDT, but remember that a lucky rabbit’s foot is never considered lucky if you’re a rabbit.

I dislike jokes, memes, whatever that diminish or ridicule a person based on factors they cannot control, such as body type. But growing up in an era of “dumb blonde” jokes, my mother (who is still stunningly beautiful and lived through much worst misogyny than I ever will) taught me when to ignore, when to condemn and when to instruct. And what battles are worth winning, and which battles will leave you diminished simply by virtue of being willing to fight them.

I was joking about being skinny. When I type quickly in idle minutes, my humor isn’t obvious, especially when I abhor emoji’s. My curvy friends constantly complain about their limited fashion choices and grumble that I can wear almost anything (ironically, business suits five/six days a week.). Actually, I love my body type. I also love men and will confess to exploiting their instincts when it comes to enriching my life, so don’t misconstrue my disapproval of childish or sexist tropes as me being a prude.

You should not stop doing something because of someone else’s opinion But if my opinion causes a person to think and reconsider their point of view (is Beaulieu really that bad?), that’s great, that’s what these boards are for. If you change your views because you’ve evolved, that’s a positive, but if you changed because someone yelled their opinions more loudly than yours, then we’ve all failed here.

Okay, I’m done, let’s get back to hockey. Are the Jets really going to be down three of their forwards tomorrow night?

Ok the family dynamics had me howling. Honestly though nobody can accuse the family for being Sheep and toeing the family line. Helps when mom and dad are so different politically I think it sets up a good dynamic.

Possibly, but I sure wouldn’t say it is the coaches and not the players. More players than coaches.
Having a great coach like Trotz sure does help though.
Islanders with every forward but one under 16 minutes and all over 11.
Flames last win had Gaudreau and Tkachuk under 15.
We’ve got Wheels and Scheifele over 22.

I couldn’t imagine the complaining here if Maurice was playing Matt Martin 11+ minutes a game.
