One year longer than I'd like but that's the cost of doing business sometimes. Lots of good teams before us have used him as a stopgap until something better comes along.

8 teams in 9 years.

So what? Every one of those have played with 8 or more teams . . . plenty of Cup winners

I know some here aren’t a fan of him, but this deal is an absolute steal at $3.5 million. DeBrusk got $5.5 million AAV for seven years earlier today, is just one year younger, and puts up extremely similar numbers to Duclair (DeBrusk 0.30 goals per game and 0.57 points per game, Duclair 0.26 goals per game and 0.54 points per game, both 0.28 assists per game). Add in the fact that he provides great speed and is a pure scorer, two things were lacking, and I struggle to see anything negative about this deal. Yes, he’s played on a ton of teams before 30, but I’m more than willing to believe that that was due more to just bad luck, playing on some bad teams who are constantly moving players out for future assets, and simply not finding a good home. He produced very well on a great Florida team for two years recently and then found success on a good Tampa team last season, so I think he’s more than capable of being a great piece for a contending team and at this price he could be one of the steals of this free agent class.

Stopgaps are two year terms, not four. All his playoff teams dumped him to upgrade…

I don't love it but, I am sure there were a few players in this slot that wanted more and this is what 3.5 buys. I wouldn't have minded Zucker at this number for 2 years max or Perron for one. Duclair checks a few boxes including speed from a actual NHL player as opposed to a Gauthier. Is 20 goals unrealistic? No. Is it an overpay? sure - UFA day.

This exactly; Isles only had 3.5 to spend and he's about what you get for 3.5 on UFA day. I'm not sure this improves the team that much, but better than overspending on some of the contracts that were handed out today, and better than doing nothing at all to improve the team. I'm still hoping there's more to come over the summer.

Adds speed on the wing. Doesn't seem like an overpay at $3.5M for a 3rd liner who can score 20 goals, Hopefully works out.

I can be as negative as any fan here, but not sure why so much hate. He brings what we need. Secondary scoring, he is good on his feet and most important — he brings speed. He also brings experience with Roy having played for him.

There is no such thing as a perfect player/fit, but this addresses a need. We needed someone that wouldnt break the bank, add something in the 20g 20a range, and someone who was mobile and speedy. AND — its a 4 year deal. This is not 7 years at 5 mil per. This is a good, solid signing.

Bringing Reilly back was also a solid keep.

My big question now is will someone move out of the lineup in a trade. Is Wahlstrom really going to be traded or does he get another chance? Is Pageau going to traded for cap relief or part of a hickey trade? No idea. Not holding my breath. But lets wait for the totality of the offseason before writing them off.

And I have no issue with either move made today thus far.
