Islanders: Chicago 3rd overall, Islanders 2026 2nd Rounder(From Chicago), Toronto 2026 2nd(from Chicago)

Sharks: Dobson, The Lesser of the Islanders or Colorado's 2026 first, Danny Nelson

Chicago: 2nd overall

Islanders get Schaefer and Hagens, also the ability to sign an RFA getting their 2nd rounder back

Chicago gets Misa

Sharks get a 25 year old defenseman entering his prime plus some draft capital and a guy who may end up a very Solid 3rd line center

hard no from the Sharks.

My god I've seen some terrible proposals for 2OA, but this one takes the cake.

2OA for:
a mid-tier Defender who is not under contract
Just say Colorado's 1st, which will likely be mid 20's. Islanders are gonna be a bubble team at best.
and some nobody.

Like, what were you thinking?

Let's put it this way. I don't even want to trade DALLAS'S first rounder, which could very well be 32nd. for Dobson. Straight up.

Why would the Blackhawks do this ???? Beyond dumb

show me a time when a Defenseman who reached 70 points once got traded for the 2nd overall pick.

Not often 25 year old first pairing defensemen are available. It's great having a nice collection of forwards but you do need defense as well. It's not like I am trying to trade you some aging 30 year old

Unless Dobson agrees to a long term, team friendly contract, he isn't worth very much to the Sharks. What if he refuses to sign an extension with the Sharks and leave for a contender next year? Sharks cannot take that risk.

Absolutely not. I don’t know how many times it needs to be said but Dobson is about to either get a huge long-term overpayment on his next contract or force his way to UFA via arbitration. He is not even close to worth 2nd overall.

It was annoying when people kept using that logic about Timo Meier when the Sharks were shopping him but it is absolutely correct.

I assume that would be true if a deal like this was made.

You’re making that assumption because it boosts Dobson’s value, not because it’s based in reality.
No I am making that assumption in the case of SJ, that would have to be true that Dobson signs with them before they make a trade like this

The key word here is “reasonable”. Dobson is not going to sign a “reasonable” contract this summer with anyone because he has so much leverage. He’d going to get at least $8.5M on a long-term contract, which pays him like a #1D, and he’s not a #1D. Jakob Chychun and his career high 47 points just got $9M x eight years as a pending UFA. Dobson’s contract will only be buying out one RFA year, so it’s incredibly easy for him to point at the Chychrun contract and say “give me that or I walk”. He’s not signing for anything reasonable, which massively impacts his value in a trade.

Don't like this for the Isles. I'd rather pay Dobson 8 or more per year than leave our right side barren, give up a first and Nelson, who apparently everyone thinks is going to be a solid player.

We get the hometown boy and more crapshoots in 2nd round picks.

Stick with Dobson, Schaefer, Romanov and Pulock/Pelech surrounding Sorokin. Build from the net out, hope that Eiserman and Richie can drop in the next two years.

You trade Dobson for anything less than a bounty and you lose the deal. Some here say he's a "mid-tier defender" coming off his worst year in the pros, others will point to him being in the Norris race two years ago till a mid-season slide. I'd rather take odds with that rather than a bunch of magic beans.

Just another case of wanting your cake and eat it too.

It's hilarious to see fanbases go for a mile when given an inch. Just be happy you went from 10 to 1. I see the appeal of drafting the hometown boy but don't expect the other teams drafting top 3 to bend over because you are scared of the consequences drafting him first overall.

I just look at San Jose's roster and it looks like they need a defenseman more than another forward. Even if you believe SJ has a good pipeline of defenseman prospects those guys are probably a good 3-5 years away from being useful guys you can rely on(it usually takes like 2-3 pro seasons to get the warts out of a young defenseman's game)

Maybe they don't trade for Dobson but if they want to maximize the potential of the forwards they will need to find ways to get experienced defensemen on their roster in the next year or 2 whether it's through trade or signing a UFA

I do like the idea of the Isles, Sharks, and Hawks working together to reshuffle the draft order so that all teams get what they want. But only one thing is clear and that is that the Sharks really want Schaefer.

I'm a Hawks fan and the perceived drop-off between Misa and other forwards like Desnoyers and Frondell is shrinking any deal between the 3 teams would be dependent on the Hawks wanting one of those guys significantly over the other 2 and an inkling that the Sharks would take him if Schaefer is gone. We also don't know how bad the Isles want Hagens and if they would ever sacrifice a chance at Schaefer to take him.

I can’t see new hockey ops coming in and diving right into the Hagens hype without feeling like he’s truly the best option based on how they reviewed all options. If this was still previous ownership (Charles Wang post Sanjay Kumar) with Garth Snow as a GM, they would have most certainly made that pick and not thought twice.
