I don’t blame any individual poster, but our fanbase is extremely defensive and will go to great lengths to make excuses for anything the team does.

Literally everyone else called this deal terrible from Day 1.

I don't think it was excuses because I was also saying I did not love the length of the Sorokin deal despite being needed to keep him. I was just wrong on Engvall. I thought at worst for this money he could slot in on the fourth line but it is clear he does not have the mentality of a winner. Makes you think Lou lost his fastball because how does Lou out of all people not realize this guy is a loser.

Seems like what is missing around here is that Engvall was actually playing well when he was offered that contract. Hasn’t played well since.
Yeah, good point. He was playing $3M well for that short stretch. The 7 years was the issue. It was a dice roll that he'd blossom and end up being a bargain. As it turns out, he was a leopard who didn't change his stripes (or whatever that expression is).

If Trouba can move moved without retention, so can Engvall.

I will be disappointed if they pay with picks/prospects to move P.E. or he's moved with retention.

Just seems like the bar has been set with the Trouba move...

Nobody is going to be stupid enough to touch Engvall's contract. He doesn't battle on the ice. Trouba, for all his dirtiness, does.

I have said it before, Engvall is truly elite at avoiding contact and physical play. I don’t know if anyone is better than him

That’s not at all how things work in the Islander universe.

There’s still time for you to edit your post. It won’t age well.

I was surprised about Trouba being moved without retention and I think it was a bad deal for the Ducks. However, there are some key differences. While Trouba absolutely sucks, he seems to at least care, Engvall not so much. Trouba also has a little over 1.5 years left on his contract and the cash hit is $2million less per year than the cap hit. Engvall on the other hand has more than 5.5 years left on his contract. The cash hit for Trouba for the Ducks is a little over $10 million for the rest of the contract, for Engvall it would be between $16.5-$17 million

Good post.

The numbers matter immensely but the unspoken factor is Engvall’s lack of passion. At least that’s how it appears. We could alternatively call it a lack of grit . Either way, it matters little. We’re stuck with him until he’s bought out which I’m beginning to think is a certainty.

Maybe I don't fully understand the process, but if a player passes through waivers, isn't that proof he has negative value since another team could have obtained him for free?

I like to judge a player by what situations I want him on the ice. In Engvall's case
  • 5x5. no
  • PP. no
  • PK. no
  • dirty opponent. OH HELL NO!
  • up 1 goal in 3rd. no
  • down 1 goal in 3rd. no
  • 3x3 OT. maybe. He's fast and it's not physical. This seems to be the time he's made for.
  • shootout. I don't know.
  • playoffs. I seem to remember him overperforming in one of the Carolina's series.

LMAO.... You do not know what Bridgeport is like.... He will probably Terminate the Contract and head back to Sweden....
Bridgeport is like a 3rd world nation
YES it is. You would think the likes of Gauthier, Foudy, Bolduc and others when they get a chance to be called up they would do everything to avoid that place.

Placing Varlamov on IR has created a roster spot for the Islanders, and less than 24 hours after clearing waivers, Pierre Engvall has been recalled.

GOSH I THOUGHT I WOULD NOT HAVE TOO SEE HIM AGAIN!!!!!
