I’ll agree he sucks now as much or more than he did 2 years ago. The difference now is that the whole league knows it and before it was our secret.

I held onto my hopes for JHS way too long. I finally saw the light when I went to a Bridgeport Islanders (Sound Tigers back then) playoff game.

They had the typical motivational music and light show as the home team hit the ice. These kids were fired up. All except JHS who looked remarkably disinterested or high, possibly both.

Welcome to the “all about me” attitude. He would have been better off in a sport like basketball where the NBA is filled with all sorts of guys like that.

This is a very bad deal for the Oilers. There's no cap problem for the Oilers when Kane returns. They're right on the edge of the cap depending how many call ups they have. When they have extra call ups they are over the cap but don't accrue cap space with Kane on LTIR. When they send the right guys down they're under the cap and are accruing cap space. When Kane is back they can send an extra forward to Bakersfield and actually use Kane, so they're in a much better cap situation when he is back. Wahlstrom is a major downgrade from Kane, guys like him are very easily replaceable. If you took out the 1st round pick the Oilers would still say no to this.

If you think this part of the deal is bad, wait until you see part 2, where the Oilers reacquire their 2025 1st round pick in order to make this one possible.

Wahlstrom btw has played himself into contention to hit the waiver wire with no other NHL team putting in a claim.

Okay Islander/Oiler fans what it the trade was for Sorokin (who would have to waive) and the Oilers moved:

It seems that with Kane predicted to come back sooner than expected they will be in cap hell.

I read that article in October when it was first posted.

What is very clear is that Finn Marceau should be fired from whatever job they have. They clearly DO NOT understand the cap. How can you be a "journalist" writing an article on the cap when you don't have the foggiest clue how it even works?

You can be forgiven for posting it, but let this be a lesson not to trust anything authored by The Hockey News or "Hockey Writers" before doing your own diligence.

It's very clear from PuckPedia or any other cap website that the Oilers are not using their LTIR pool, meaning they are (generally) cap compliant without using a dime of Kane's $5.1 LTIR. They are operating under the cap, even with him on it.

This is dumb, but the Oilers can still trade their 2025 1st. The trade at the 2024 draft was conditional, if they trade the 2025 pick, Philly gets the 2026 pick automatically.

You can make sarcastic remarks all you like, but goaltenders don't usually garner a lot in trade value when compared to how valuable they are to the line up. I don't know why this is or why GMs see it this way. Perhaps because goaltenders are sort of unpredictable year to year. *Askarov is a notable exception, and a recent one.

Sorokin is a great goaltender and he is more consistent than a number of his peers. He, or someone like him, is a player the Oilers should target.

The trade might miss from the typical fans viewpoint on here but it is probably closer to a real world trade than you'd like to admit.

I don't see a trade happening for Sorokin that is logical or feesible, regardless of if it is the Oilers or another team.

That’s exactly what I was getting at. Edmonton would offer anyone that isn’t Mcdavid/Draisaitl essentially and none of the remaining pieces is even worth it in return for the Islanders.

The Isles need a guy who can consistently score goals and play quality defensive hockey and is a similar age to the Barzal/Dobson/Romanov group. Teams just don’t give those types of guys up.
