Rumor: Islanders nearing extension with Palmieri

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.

I fully grant the asset management argument(s). Yet, there's something refreshing IMHO about an accomplished (and still productive) veteran apparently wanting to close out his career on the Island. So I can't completely kill it.

That said- deal needs to get done- and it needs to be reasonable.

You know they could have traded him and resigned as ufa right ?

If Islanders can resign him to a decent deal I can live without a mid round 2nd rounder and a average prospect. Maybe at best they could have got a 2nd and a 3rd.

Beyond that I just looked at the Standings and surprised Islanders still in it(only 4 points out) with 20 games left. If we have another good run we can still make the playoffs

Live in reality and rebuild .

Is Komarov still playing? Maybe he can get a 3x2 from Lou!

Edit he actually is! Had 6 goals and 19 points in 36 games in the Finnish league, a perfect candidate for Lou.

Uncle Leo having 19 points in the Finnish league would still have a better shot to make the playoffs over San Jose and Buffalo.

It's fine if it's 2y/10m total. He'll pot 25 the next two years and slot up and down as where needed.

I don't think he's getting a 1st in return and then what's the point? A 2nd in the 50's and a mediocre prospect (we already are tapped with those players)

The point is more that either he signs by the trade deadline or you move him.

No ifs, ands, or buts.

You don't take any chance that a 20-goal scorer walks for nothing.

You shouldn't do it in any case, but you especially don't do it to a fanbase that still traumatized from the Tavares fiasco.

Just tank man what are you doing
Just tank man what is LOU doing

I think every Islander fan, whether in favor of a complete rebuild or a smaller retool, agreed that at least Nelson and Palmieri should've been sold off, even if Pageau and Lee didn't get moved since they have another year on their contracts.

Yeah...never understood the appeal of Palmieri staying on a dead roster. It's like Buffalo re-signing Greenway and Zucker, instead of getting assets, and thinking you've created stability on your roster.

I understand this but I don't really care about a pick in the 50's. Tavares would've garnered a first rounder, maybe two and a good-excellent prospect. There's a huge difference between the two players and situations, imo.

Palmieri would've yielded pick in the 50's and some depreciating asset that would wind up getting his spirit destroyed by the suckitude of being in Bridgeport. I'd rather not have another young man's dreams of playing in the NHL die at the hands of a younger Lamoriello

Palmieri is from Long Island and has a lot of family here. You can also add in the fact that he owned a house out east before he even signed with the Isles. His plan I’m guessing is to finish up and just live out his retirement on the Island.
