Look at the 2006 3rd round and the 2 picks that followed the Isles selection.

Yes - Figren/Marchand. I get that, but you said, "You get Figren and we get the rat." Since I'm an Isles fan I would be "getting the rat."

That was my point.

Isles need another consistent top 6 scorer who’s not useless defensively in the same age range as Barzal. Outside of that, replacing the aging veterans with younger options who can play in a system. Ideally removing Nelson, JGP, Palmieri, Lee and possibly Pelech, Mayfield too. Toss in Engvall getting sent to the sun.

Realistically they build around: Barzal, Horvat, Holmstrom, Tsyplakov up front and Romanov/Dobson (unless the offer blows the Isles away) On the back end.
If your forward core is built around that you might as well tear it all down and start from scratch. That’s as bad a core (for a team that goes for it) can be.

Barzal only available in a package for a clear upgrade. He has his warts (doesn’t go to net) but he’s an elite transition/possession player in this league, and lots of isles fans seem to ignore the defensive impact that that has on a game. That being said, if he’s the best player on your team it’s not his fault, but it’s a problem.

We could trade him if we were getting a legit alpha dog but you’d hope to have both.

1st, expiring UFA, Raty would be the Horvat trade and we would do it.
So you are re-tooling, not rebuilding?

Is Lambert available?

Pageau? 3rd and 5th
RD? Mayfield and Pulock both big vets that PK. Not sure what your team is so I don’t know what to ask for

Doubtful Lambert is available for a rental
Jets would be interested in Brock for sure, maybe Barzal if available

Jets are in a position to go all in
I could see the Jets interested in Nelson as a rental for the right price. I can't see the Islanders really trading away any non UFA's, but if they were, both Barzal or Horvat would be nice (may affect other signings though).

I'd do that for Pageau. Is retention possible? 5 million is tough to fit, something like 3.5-4 is more palatable

1000% truth.

Lou cares more about facial hair, low jersey numbers, and no announcing his signings because he thinks it gives him an advantage as opposed to actually doing what's best for the organization.

I think you're taking "fire sale" too literally. On HFBoards it basically means that change is necessary and all of that teams' players are available.

It doesn't mean that Dobson for a 5th is a fair deal.

Roughly a 2nd, but again Lou is the GM so he's going nowhere.
So it’s not a fire sale; it’s more an auction with reserved value?

You think Sorokin gets traded? Bet there would be lots of interest there.
Sorokin, Dobson, Romanov and every other asset that is 24 years old and younger should not be traded. The rest should be on the block and eventually traded for picks and high-talent reclamation projects (Dach, Cozens etc..) and build the rest from the draft.

The NYI should also be in the business of taking bad short-term contracts for draft capital to 1) fill out holes in their line-up and 2) refill the prospect cupboards.

If they do it well and a little bit of luck they could become a decent contender within 3 years.

Do us a favor and tell the entire Avs fanbase that no one wants Mittelstadt. He's thrown out in every Avs offer on these boards and thus Avs fans are missing the point that if they're so willing to deal him, he doesn't have that much value.
Relax guy, that would just be to balance the cap, you can do whatever you want with him after. Obviously if we want Horvat its because Mittelstadt is less than ideal and not pretending he has a lot of value. Richie would be the centerpeice as prospect with picks and other potential prospects. I said it would start with Richie and Mittelstadt.

One Pierre Engvall available for 75% off (7th round pick). There is however a no return policy on him.

The Islanders have enough people with too much term. A adding in a center who can’t play center (with too much term) isn’t helping the situation and is just putting wet scotch tape on a leaky Tupperware.
Mittelstadt has some value and only signed for two more years thats not a lot of term imo. Certainly tradeable if he is not a good fit. It would also be so the Avs can take Horvats full cap hit.

Not for Horvat it’s not happening. Call San Jose or Chicago to move Mittelstadt.

Fine dont take Mittelstadt but you do understand cap math has to work and not many teams can take the full cap without balancing it out with a roster player. I wouldnt have thought this was such a hard concept to grasp. If no prospects or picks appeal to you from the Avs that a whole other argument but not one you are even making.

It has nothing to do with cap math and everything to do with the fact that Casey Mittelstadt is terrible. I personally have no interest in moving out Horvat, let alone Bo Horvat for another teams mistake with a prospect attached to him. You want Bo Horvat? Send something that makes sense for the Isles and doesn’t include your center who was stupidly traded for Bowen Byram. Replace Mittelstadt with Colton at the bare minimum and it’s a substantially better package.

I get that, I dont think you guys should get rid of Horvat but was just reponding to the thread. Most Avs fans want center depth so bad you can pretty much name your price of picks and prospects. With Horvat signed long term the Avs wouldnt need a top 6 center prospect like Richie anymore. Colton would make the math work too, no issues there.

It’s more so the fact people think that the Isles are still the Mike Milbury ran team who dumps anything of quality for a bag of pucks and calls it a day. If we’re talking name our price, you’re not going to like the ideal player I want in return for Horvat as the main piece in return from Colorado and it’s not a pick/prospect, it’s a LW. That would be a hockey trade instead of rebuild type of deal that this is.

I don’t think the team needs a fire sale but definitely needs to get younger, more skilled, and faster.

This core has been together for a long time and it’s time to shake things up.

Players that I’d definitely trade at the deadline are Nelson Palmieri and Pageau.

In the offseason I’d look at trading Lee Pelech Pulock and Mayfield.

I’d keep Horvat as I think he’s probably the next isles captain but with Horvat and Barzal if it made sense I’d move either.

Dobson I would not trade. I’d re-sign Tsyplakov. Holmstrom id keep.

Cizikas id keep but similar to Horvat and Barzal if it made sense I’d trade them.

Sorokin I wouldn’t trade.

I’d be looking at Acquiring draft capital, prospects, and players 25 and under.
