Friedman: Islanders “testing the market” on Dobson

I still think Dobson for 2nd OA makes a ton of sense for both sides, but I know Sharks fans would just prefer the pick.
Makes sense for the isles not the sharks. They are getting a cost controlled asset that likely becomes a star as good or better than Dobson. By the time are are competing dobsons in his late 20's early thirties and you gotta back up the Brinks truck for him. Easy no way for san jose

Jason Robertson for Dobson.

Stars badly need another top 4 RHD and Dobson would fill that hole.
Money problems is the only reason Dallas is trading him.

25 year old 100 point players arnt getting traded. They cant afford him.

So they get a worse player for more money they cant afford?

If his asking is 11m.

Makes sense to me

$11M might be his NY ask. Texas ask maybe high 9's?
Either way it aint working for Dallas, They are 4 forwards short as it stands now and thats going with a 22 man roster with 2.5 mill left in cap space

They absolutely can not take on another 8 figure cap hit.

If Jason Robertson is a 100 point forward than Noah Dobson is a 70 point defenseman.

Hey, they both did it once!

True, he is worth even more! 2nd overall and Cheernyishow might be tempting.

If they find takers for Dumba and Lyubushkin, they could absolutely make it work. But really they don’t need a RHD of Dobson’s quality. A 2nd pairing type of guy would be fine.
