Friedman: Islanders “testing the market” on Dobson

Dach has zero trade value

You don’t trade a franchise player for weak 1st round picks

I don't agree :
- Dach still likely has a value most likely for many teams (see Kappo Kakko trade)
- I like Dobson but how many Franchise players do you have in the League ? For me Hedman is a Franchise players, not Dobson
- Those are not weak first rounders. The usually 1st traded at TDL are rather 24-32 OA
- Add Mailloux who is a good young AHL D with some upside

Not saying this is what NYI would want but this a better package you make it look lie.

I can’t do anything but to guess you are a Montreal fan

Dach has had 2 major season ending injuries and has proven nothing. He’s a throw in piece in a trade like this

Basically every team has their own franchise players or how they are viewed. They may not be that league wise but for those teams they are as valuable. They arent throw away assets

This is a weak draft, there’s no superstar prospects available so offering 2 mid 1st round picks gives you no quarantees on hitting on them

This is just the typical quantity for quality offer. Try to throw as many mjehh assets together as possible to land high end talent. Very easy offee to beat

Mailloux and the two firsts are not "meh" pieces. For Dach I totally agree but he still has some value, see Kakko trade.

Dobson is one of those guys who, as an Isles fan, you just know he's going to be a premium #1D for the next 5-10 years if we trade him. It's a given. If we re-sign him he could easily continue to fall off a cliff, but I have no doubt that if traded he will be the next Toews.

Not to say I would give him the $10M he's after, but I think a compromise could be had. I think the allure of drafting Schaefer ties into what you'll have WITH Dobson.

Kakko went for a depth D, a 3rd and a 6th while being a higher pedigree prospect that hasn’t had multiple knee surgeries and a busted wrist. I’m not sure how that trade example helps establish Dach’s value lol

Well with seeing isles fans takes on the matter, it seems Dobson for utahs's 4th overall pick is the only thing that makes sense in all actuality though i would target a team with a plethora of promising prospects/u23 players who also have a top 12 pick get a package deal and use the pick from the trade and other roster players not acquired from the trade to get into hagens territory so someone like Philly for foerester,7th,brink,Drysdale

The Isles main motivation in looking at deals is because they would love to draft Hagens in addition to Schaeffer. With Schaeffer falling into the Isles lap, Dobson will no longer be the Isles #1 defenseman of the future. The Isles are tight against the cap, which provides the motivation to consider deals for Dobson rather than pay him $10million. The ideal trade partner is Chicago, who own the 3OA pick and already have a top prospect pipeline and are motivated to start filling out their team with established talent. Utah is a possibility if for some reason, Chicago gets a better offer, or Misa is available at #3. Teams like Boston and Detroit and Ottawa are drafting too late to be serious contenders for Dobson.

Looks like Dobson might be playing his hand, and he holds all the cards. He can force a trade to exactly where he wants to go, by simply saying he won’t negotiate with anyone exceot the one team he wants to actually go to. If not, he’ll go to arbitration and win a monster award, taking him to UFA. Where all the Isles can do is have. A real unhappy player making a lot of money.

It’s starting to smell very Debrincat-like. I thought it was going to be Byram who played those cards, but it’s starting to sound like Dobson might push his situation first. This is the exact time to do it. A few days from the draft.

If he plays those cards, the Isles will be forced to just make the best deal they can with his preferred team. If they don’t, he’ll walk himself to free agency with an arbitration ruling for free.

If there’s 2 players who are almost guaranteed to be traded in the next week, it’s probably Dobson and Byram who both can use arbitration to force their move.

These teams just have way too many monster contracts to young Dmen. The arbitrators won’t have a choice really.
