Is Zach Parise on the decline?

Seems strange for him to be a -9. He always seemed to dominate at even strength. But only 5th in EVS scoring forwards on the Wild. Even behind Vanek! Notably he has played a few less games, but I would expect him to be miles ahead of most of these guys.

Doesn't really have an offensive center to feed him. His effectiveness was really only because of how tenacious he was around the net while being really skilled. A smallish guy going around the net is going to take toll on anybody's body let alone a guy with gigantic injury issues

Put up 90+ points with Travis "worst contract in the league" Zajac

It's just one mediocre year from a 31 year old player. 31 years old is not that old, even though it's past most forwards prime.

So while he's not the player he once was, I'd wait to see if it continues to next season to decide if it's a significant decline or not.

Not familer with the Devils who else did he have during that year. was in his prime also

Langenbrunner played with them. All three players had the two most productive seasons of their careers playing together, so both Parise and Zajac probably had their points inflated a bit. He's pretty much on pace for what he is though, so I wouldn't say he's declining yet. The thing to worry about with him is actually one of his biggest strengths, and that's his motor. When it goes, how effective is he going to be? Also, I think the way he plays could lead to more injuries as he gets into his mid 30's.

He's at the age where raw point production starts to decline (usually), but he'll still be a very effective player. Guys in their early 30's have wisdom and experience that they lacked in their fresher years.

I miss the player, but Minnesota can keep that contract.

Parise is on a slow decline. Last night was the first time in ages he had his full motor going. When he doesn't have it, which has been most of the season, he's a fairly ordinary player. Eventually that contract will be a bear.

He's not on the decline. It's more the Wild are playing important games and Parise has proven time and time again to not be that good when it matters. Kovi was better than Parise in 2012 and he had a bad back injury. Parise hasn't been good in many of the Chicago games in the playoffs. The Wild as a team really don't have many guys that are better when it matters. Right now it matters and the whole team is struggling. Parise is Parise still.

Plus Yeo has no idea how to manage his players. He overplays Suter and Dubnyk, He forces skill players like Vanek to be grinders and then punishes them when they can't handle it. He's a bad coach and he should feel bad.

He did? Source?

Nobody really knows what conversations Lou and Zach had. Some Devils fans think Zach knew he was leaving all along and strung Lou along. Personally, I don't think that's the kind of person Zach is, so I don't really buy it. I think the Devils simply couldn't go to where Minnesota did with the money they gave him and Zach chose to get paid well to play close to home. I can't say as I blame him. I miss the player, but as others have said, I'm glad the Devils don't have that contract. They were lucky enough to get out from under Kovy's contract (even though it obviously sucked to lose that kind of talent).
