Speculation: Is winning games and being first in the Atlantic an indication that we're a bad team?

Call me crazy but I say bring it, I don't fear Boston not this time.

We got 2 goalies having spectacular seasons, at least we did before Stolarz went down.

This is probably the Leafs best defense core in 25 years.

The PK has been on point most of the year.

I think this is the best all around team we've had in a VERY long time.

I think this team beats Boston

I absolutely agree.

...but then I remembered this is the Leafs...

This feels like a stretch to create records that only fit the Leafs. A more relevant stat would be how many years since they’ve won a playoff series. Plenty of teams in the NHL have longer droughts than the Leafs’ current one-year gap.
Any way you slice it, dice it or phrase it, the team with this extremely talented core has been a very good regular season team, and a really bad playoff team.

I don't disagree with a thing you've said. But until the core prove they can elevate their game in the playoffs, it won't matter.

Boston's not that good anymore, this team should beat Boston easily. I dunno if the D core is better than it was 2 years ago when Rielly was still really good, Brodie and Giordano were playing well, then we added McCabe and Schenn also who was really good. The biggest improvement is goaltending for sure. I think this team wins a round, maybe even another round but M&M&JT always come up short in the playoffs and unless that changes, it's hard to see them going any further than that.

Exactly!

Yep. This talk of "records" always seems like a "I never heard of that 'record' before someone turned a star into the record so they could pile on the Leafs" moment for me.

Remember when the Leafs hadn't won a series in 20 years of whatever. No one ever talked about the Panthers harming a similar record around the same time. Then we won a series and then the new record was about losing 7 out of 8 round ones? Really?

I was saying at work that I don’t think I’ve ever been so disappointed with a first place team before.

I think their game translates well into the playoffs but if they can get some offensive production we could be very challenging to beat.

Having the least blown leads in the league (2)
Is a very impressive stat. One that I bet has not been so flattering in years past.

The team seems worse in every way except goaltending which hasn’t been an issue in the playoffs, so hopefully the system starts working or the offense learns how to score in tight games.

Nobody said the Leafs were a bad team, but they are no question a DISAPPOINTING TEAM. Whenever the chance has been there to take a significant lead in the Atlantic, they end up screwing up.

Florida isn’t too far behind right now. A few L’s and Toronto is back to their resting spot 2nd or 3rd in the Atlantic.

They need to win the division this season. That should be the regular season goal and something to build off of in the playoffs.

A long way to go, but if you look at the possible playoff matchups winning a round won’t be easy.

This team has managed to become the most boring group I’ve seen yet. They play like a wannabe version of the 2000s Devils without the cup pedigree.

Brutal hockey as of late from a results and entertainment perspective.

They were very entertaining early in the year, but after Matthews returned they ran out of steam. With the lack of talent, especially on the back end, it’s hard for this group. Goaltending has allowed them to over achieve.
