Is Vladimir Tarasenko cooked?

He was legit good for Ottawa last year. Keep in mind he had a long year with the trade to Florida and the cup run.

Now that he's playing for Detroit, odds are he has a longer offseason to recover and give one more quality year as a middle six forward before his contract is up. If so, he lands another one year deal and heads to Russia in fall '27.

I really like this analysis, and think that we sometimes forget that dudes just have down years- he’s declining for sure, but he could be dealing with somethin as well.

But ya, for some reason I thought this dude would be ripping 30 goal seasons for forever- his shot looked so good back in the day, and he bounced back from those botched shoulder surgeries for a bit.

So- he maybe isn’t cooked yet, but you should probably check and flip him over or somethin. That.. sounds bad, but I’m trying to continue the cooking metaphor.

Didnt he have some major lower body injuries for the blues

Remember him missing most of a season once time and then a few other years where he got hurt often

Taylor hall also from 2010 is a shell of his former self and hes only 33 (has fallen off for 3+ years now) due to major career injuries hes sustained.

2010 draft class has a lot of great players whose careers were impacted by injuries

Hall, Seguin, RyJo, Tank, Kuznetsov etc

He had 2 shoulder surgeries that didn’t take, then got a 3rd and had a resurgence, if I remember correctly. Wasn’t happy with docs about the first 2 surgeries, said he was still a good player and once his shoulder was actually fixed he proved it- briefly. Ima go look up the stats, but that’s my memory of it at least.

Edit- had one more 30 goal season after the 3rd surgery, best point total of his career that year, then 50 points, 55 points, then this year. So it would seem more of an anomaly than a definite cookout, but who knows?

I still consider him a cook. Not cooking much right now though. Partly due to Red Wings' kitchen being a bit small and poorly equipped and kind of hard to find yourself around in.

No it was his shoulder that was wrecked and then he reinjured it. Basically missed two seasons because of that and apparently had setbacks with his recovery.

He has 20 in 48 this season on a lousy team (all due respect Wings fans).

The team has been pretty good since the coaching change. Tarasenko is one of the few guys who has pretty much looked just as lifeless regardless. Blaming it on the team is too easy, Tarasenko has easily been one of the least noticeable forwards.

The Wings were expecting too much with that contract. He was a depth scorer on the Panthers, and he fit in well in that role. Yzerman seemed to think he could be effective in a top 6 spot, which was wishful thinking.

Yup. Liked that the Panthers traded for him for scoring depth, but he definitely didn't look like his prime self.
Was a good 2nd or 3rd guy on the line.
I haven't watched the Wings this year, is he playing RW or LW?

He's extremely slow, bad at sustained puck possession, and isn't much of a playmaker.

He is a very big part of why the team has been lousy. He along with Kane and Compher (who were our 2nd line for a good while) have some of the lowest possession metrics in the league.

Three years ago, both Tarasenko and Kane were traded to the Rangers for what was supposed to be a “deep playoff run” and neither guy moved the needle at all. Looked like a couple of has-been’s.

It shouldn’t be all that surprising that, years later and on a lousy team, they’re even worse. It’s two guys who no longer have the luxury of being the most dangerous offensive players on the ice on any given night and neither one is willing or able to adjust their games. We’ve seen star players retire from the league countless times over this scenario.
