Does anyone think this team is built to win the cup or do you think we need more grit. I hate watching the Rangers throw body checks which seem rare these days but when they do they end up on the ice, Teams seem to throw huge hits on us and we have no answer for them. All they have is Asham to fight and he is above average middleweight who can't take on all the teams tough guys and every team seems to have at least 2 guys who are to much for him.

At this moment, there are so many variables. The only thing we can say right now is that we have one legit scoring line, a solid 4th line, and a solid D corps. Obviously we got goaltending covered as well.

we still need:

a)a legit third line center. Maybe Miller will grow into that this season.

B)a triggerman for the PP/Defensemen who can anchor our bottom pair or plug in holes.

c)our first line center to play like a first line center.

d)Might need a big bodied left wing.

Too many question marks.

Well, we can grind it out with Hank carrying us again, particularly if we manage to avoid Pittsburgh and a high scoring team from the West. But I think if we face Pittsburgh, or a team which scores a lot of goals which gets hot, then it's all she wrote.

I'm not particularly confident that we can get in there, then magically find the form which catapults us through the post-season. It will no doubt be another case of 7 game series and overtimes galore.

Grit is not a problem with this team. It's the lack of offensive creativity and offensive zone entry that are the biggest flaws on this team. All cup winners post lockout were great in the regard of dominating SH for vs. SH against along with effective breakouts. Unless the Rangers revamp this system or the players get better in those areas, I don't think we're built for the cup. Maybe if Henrik goes 93 Roy in the playoffs.

These boards are pretty good when we're winning. Never over-exited, but usually realistic. We lose in game in a SO, and the sky falls.

Does this fanbase have enough grit for a hockey season?

At this point, no. But it is too early to judge.
If they had just an average PP, this team would have 5 more points. They don't so they have to be more efficient offensively and rock solid defensively.

Only if Brian Boyle permanantley replaces Richards as the #1 center on this team, while also replacing Staal (yes folks, Staal) as the #1 dman, and of course Lundqvist as the #1 goalie.

Then and ONLY then is this team truly built for a cup.

Boyle - Boyle - Boyle
Boyle - Boyle - Boyle
Boyle - Boyle - Boyle
Kreider (just so Torts can bench him in the third for something that wasn't his fault) - Boyle - Boyle.

On a serious note: As long as Lundqvist is in between the pipes for this team they have just as good a chance as everyone else. I'm going to vote yes.

And your defensive pairing would be
Bicks - Bicks
Bicks - Bicks
Bicks - Bicks?

If you can't beat 'em, jam 'em.

No.

I do think this team has great potential.

However, last years PO's leave a bad taste in my mouth. Torts was out-coached and we were taken to one too many game 7s. Our offense can't score more than 4 goals. Still relying on Hank to win 90% of the games. Atrocious PP.

I like Torts but the system is not working as well as last year. When you have the talent that this team does you need to be able to come up big and score important goals. It just isn't happening.

Playoffs? Yes
Cup? Not yet

team is built to contend its the system that is killing us. i dont understand why torts beats the offense out of every player we get. im starting to get tired of this coach

Agree with others who have said the problem is coaching. I'm sorry but a team with this much talent shouldn't have a ****** powerplay. Torts doesn't get the most out of the team. If you compare our roster to the devils we should be the better team.

Games aren't won on paper. Also, not so sure our roster is in fact better than their's is.

I think it is, on paper at least.

Everyone kept saying we were 1-2 pieces away from being contenders. And during that time we got Nash. But at the same time we lost some decent pieces. I think we can still take it all the way.

I confess, i'd take the poll results a tad more seriously if there weren't several known Devils fans voting "no" in it.
