Kinda misleading to just go by raw points when looking at the playoff race, IMO “points above games played” is the most concise and accurate way to compare teams and capture pace.

TOR +9
FLA +7
TBL +6
BOS +3
OTT +2
DRW -2

Merely passing Boston doesn’t give them the inside track on the A3 spot, as Tampa is outplaying them both with a few less GP
Ya, I do it slightly different, but basically works out the same.

When I look at standings, I look at win/loss differential,
Which have the same numbers you listed.

Obviously knock on wood, but there have been some recent changes to the Sens that signal a good forecast for their playoff chances this season.

Ullmark has completely returned to form and is a dynamo out there. Having a #1 Goalie back there fills a lot of holes.

Green has shuffled the deck recently and our FWDs are better situated in the lineup now. Green reassembled the Tkachuk-Norris-Batherson line and they have been dominant out there. This line has looked great in prior seasons as well.

Zub has been injured with Hamonic of all people playing top line RHD to plug the hole, yet we are still playing a strong defensive game capable of shutting out the opposition.

I think Staois needs to find a capable winger to play beside Giroux and Stutzle (though Gaudette has been an incredible story) and he should probably be looking into a replacement for Zub unfortunately since he has been so injury prone; however, these are the same sort've additiona every playoff-bound wants to make.

I'm liking our chances right now 🤙

Yes, they should make it. It'd be more surprising if they didn't at this stage as their team is in a playoff position and better than their nearest competition.

As a long-term and suffering Sens fan, I have real hope this year. It starts and ends with goaltending though, so a healthy Ullmark is a must for this roster to compete. They have defensive depth issues, when healthy they have a solid bottom-4 with Sanderson, Zub, Chabot and Jensen, but the bottom pairing is inexperienced (Kleven-JBD) or downright ugly (Hamonic on this last legs currently has the distinction of being an anchor for Sanderson while Zub is on long-term IR, otherwise he is the preferred 3rd RD). But with quality goaltending, the offence is there to get their goalie some cushion while they experience (and resolve) defensive lapses resulting into goals.

The forward core looks to have added some breadth to their 2-way game, especially Stutzle and Batherson, while Norris is finally looking healthy after missing most of the last two seasons. Tkachuk is peaking.

This is the year they make it I think.

I think if they make one significant add to their roster in-season (and I do expect them to be buyers if they don't go on a losing streak soon), they make it.
