Is there a narrative that the Capitals are sacrificing everything to get Ovechkin the Goal Record? Is there a double standard with regards to Crosby?

And the Avalanche cant beat anyone while having two players tied for 1-2 in scoring and a third in the top 10. Which is more likely to sustain for the entire season?

i'm not saying the caps are guaranteed to win the stanley cup.

i'm saying the dumb narrative that caps only care about Ovi's goal chase, and are sacrificing fielding a competitive team to get it done, is a stupid made up lie that is baldly, plainly, obviously false to anyone willing to watch them play hockey. They happen to have the best win percentage in the Eastern Conference at the moment, and have beaten a bunch of good teams (...and the habs...) doing it.

The Caps over the last 3 or so years has been one of the best managed teams in the league - they have improved their team while not only maintaining their #1 picks they've also added more picks to their pile and drafted very well.

It's just silly bitterness at this point.

As for the Pens, maybe they did some overly agressive moves but c'mon you have two of the greatest players of all time in your lineup and they're still really good. If anything I do respect the Pens commitment to winning, even if it have backfired as of late.

I genuinely dislike this narrative, for both teams.

Caps are doing it. But, they are also doing well as a team (7-2-0, with a streak of 7, 3rd in conference with 4 and 2 less games than 1st and 2nd!). Pittsburgh is not (4-7-1, second last with more games than Caps!).

Brian MacLellan did a tremendous job retooling Washington on the fly. They are SO much faster as a team this year and revamping the D has improved both the defense and more importantly the offense. They've gone from offensively inept to the No. 1 scoring team in the NHL.

Even with regression they are still going to have an elite offense and didn't sell out major picks to get there.

If this is "selling out to get XXX player the record" more teams should do it. Seems to be working well for the team and Ovechkin individually who is tied for the league lead in goals and is a +13.

They did mortgage likely some long term performance for trying to hitch up the wagon to be more competitive right now. But the full tear down is not a sure thing. We’ve seen multiple teams languish in it by not picking the right guy or not supplementing with the right free agents.

The Caps have a smaller margin for error and it’s going to be tough. They likely won’t get over the hump, but they could get closer. They’ve benefitted from seeing some injury contracts go. They also can attract free agents to an extent where other teams don’t always succeed in that.

Caps are building up a good group of young and youngish players to help them remain a good team, moving forward.

Strome
Protas
McMichael
Dubois
Chychrun

They’ve made some good moves that are working out. Good on them. Happy to see it.

& all of them were either drafted or acquired on the cheap.

Hey, I like Hendrix Lapierre.

Jakob Chychrun has been a really fun addition to this roster.

Some great asset management by the Sens on that one

Rebuilding is for cheap owners and bad GMs
