I don't think scoring placements are everything, but he's been a top five scorer more often than Francis, Hawerchuk, Modano, Sundin, Denis Savard, Fedorov, Gilmour and other Hall of Famers who aren't generally considered bottom-rung Hall of Fame members by knowledgeable hockey fans.
Fedorov, Modano, and Gilmour were defensive beasts that had great postseason performances (and all of them have Cups). Francis is two points shy of 1800, 2nd all time in assists, and even has a Selke himself in addition to a great post-season record of his own.
Sundin has #LeafsNation as his leading stat line. :B However, he also led the Leafs in scoring every single year except one (twelve years), and it was never close. He was a one-man show and probably deserved more Hart recognition for it than he got...which was none. In the limited amount of post-season appearances for the Leafs during that time, Sundin was also solid. A big boon, however, is the fact that he is one of the most prolific international players of all time, with 94 points in 79 games.
Hawerchuk and Savard get a lot of mileage off of sexy 100+ point totals, though in the 80s they were top-10ish in PPG against some of history's best of all time, including Wayne and Mario. Stamkos has better per-game stats than them, that's straight up, so it's not like he's hanging around with Ciccarelli and Andreychuk.
